Which fish should I get

Hello,
I am new to this forum and hope that I am doing this right. I currently have a 37 gallon saltwater tank with a chocolate chip star fish in it. i have had him for about a month and he had been do great. I have fed him blood worms every other day and he has loved it. Whenever I put them on him he quickly moves it down to his mouth. However, yesterday I noticed that he did not want to eat. I figured I try again in the morning but he still does not want to eat.Could it be that he is bored of the food?

Also I added the Lubbock fairy wrasse after changing around the layout of my tank. Everything looks good and all of the fish are out except the firefish. I can see him hiding from time to time but I wanted to know why he isnt coming out. Last night I saw the lubbock chase him around for a second but there was nothing else to that. Please let me know if these fish are compatible and whether my firefish might come out again

That is why he is hiding. Unfortunately, it will not get better.
 
Honestly starfish eat here and there he may just be full

Also don't feed freshwater food to saltwater this means blood worms

I added a Lubbock fairy wrasse after changing around the layout of my tank. Everything looks good and all of the fish are out except the firefish. I can see him hiding from time to time but I wanted to know why he isnt coming out. Last night I saw the lubbock chase him around for a second but there was nothing else to that. He will comet when I feed. Also, the wrasse doesn't do anything to the other fish I have in the tank and they are all smaller than him. Please let me know if these fish are compatible and whether my firefish might come out again. He actually came out for a few minutes earlier. Does this mean he is getting used to the wrasse?

Hi everyone!

Lots of people, including many long time marine fish owners feed black worms which are also freshwater to marine fish.

Why do you say it's not a good thing? Only thing bad is that it is blood worms or tubifex worms which have issues with not being clean.
 
maybe the firefish was hiding because of putting your hands in the tank and moving around rocks. :D i think he'll get used to the wrasse. i have a purple firefish and a mccosker wrasse together for more than 2 years and they're fine. it also depends on the fish. some fish are just mean.

Ok thanks thats what I thought. Do you think it will come out soon and stay because i have had the wrasse for about a week now

Ok thats what I thought but it has been about 4 days now and he is still hiding often. Do you think he is still skiddish
 
It will probably depend on how safe/comfortable he feels. I got a fire fish in my tank for a few years now. He will sometimes get shy for a period then be back out again. Never have been able to figure why he does it.
 
It's your tank feed your fish what you want, I just don't think feeding fish something that's not part of their diet is not healthy but that's just me... My fish don't eat flakes or pellets unless I go on vacation and have a feeder going

I read somewhere that feeding fw food to sw can lead to issues down the road I got to find the article tho

Blackworms are extremely popular in the hobby and other than a few fear mongering stories I've never heard a bad thing about them. Many fish thrive on them and breeders use them to condition the fish into breeding behavior.

They are very popular in the hobby, but that doesn't change the fact some people do not think you should feed freshwater animals to saltwater animals.

i think this has been a misunderstanding, based off people using freshwater FISH and food for saltwater fish. i've seen a lot of debate back and forth, primarily in regards to people feeding goldfish to lionfish. the primary issue being an incorrect HUFA profile and possibility of fatty liver.

the other facet of this is feeding certain terrestrial plants like garlic or romaine lettuce, which is also apparently undesirable for long term health.

i think these two points have been conflated quite a bit, and many people have extended that to all foods.

i don't feel that using terrestrial versus freshwater versus marine foods as a blanket guideline is the correct way to go about it though.

for example, white worms are a mostly terrestrial worm, but provide an excellent nutritional profile:

they're actually roughly on par with anchovies in that regard.

so i think making the broad statement "don't feed freshwater/terrestrial animals to marine animals" is an incorrect statement to make. there is considerably more to take in to consideration aside from where the food happens to reside.
