Which fish?

Yes, yet another fish stocking question. I can't seem to find a fish that fits these constraints.

My husband likes fish that "don't look like freshwater fish". What he really wants is a bright tang, but my tank is a 4' 120g. Any suggestions for a reef safe fish with a wider(taller?) body type and bright colors that isn't aggressive, a picky eater or a jumper?

I'm thinking a flame or CB angel is my best option, but of course they are risky.

I have two black and white clowns, a bangaii cardinal, purple firefish, mixed reef and inverts. No clams though.

You can probably get away with a yellow tang. If smaller then look at a tomini tang.

Or a yellow dwarf angelfish if possible coral predation is not an issue.

My new 120g will have the following, pair of clowns, group of chromis(have that already), mandarin, tailspot blenny, one smallish tang(there are a number of small bristletooths) and a harem of anthias, (though keep in mind those needs several daily feedings) royal gramma and maybe a firefish.
This I consider to be fairly heavily stocked and requires good skimming and WC's

I'm not trusting of any type of angels, I know how my luck runs...

Agree, and the mention of a yellow tang as well, it's going to want to claim that tank, borderline, better be last if that is your pick.

I almost suggest a trio of yellow-tail damsels. Pushy, but likely no more than the clowns are. The cardinal---I'm not sure. Never had one, and it might be vulnerable to rowdy damsels...though they mostly push and shove each other given enough room.

If damsels, I would suggest talbots. Love mine and is not aggressive in my tank. Though mine are ruled by tangs and wrasses.

Thanks all. I actually looked at the Foxface description this morning because people have them but LiveAquaria says not coral safe?

I have gone back and forth about the bristletooth tangs and damsels (I like the Tracey's). The tangs are safest, if they would be happy in the tank, but not very bright. We did see a beautiful Tomini and the orange bits did stand out.

Somehow, it seems like I could test for reef safeness before I put the fish in the DT, but not for aggression?

Lovely, but my tank is four feet and the tang guidelines (in the stickies at the top) recommend at least five for yellow and purple tangs.

You'll be okay. I've got a small yellow tang in my 90 with a plan to relocate should he get too big.

Thought someone who keeps a hawk would chime in...

I believe it's just one of those chances you may or may not be willing to take, depending on how much you like shrimp.

Many people keep hawks with shrimp and cleanup crew without incident, similar to keeping dwarf angels with corals I suppose.

I would be interested in knowing this also, a longnose hawkfish is on my list but I like my cleaner shrimp.

My friend has a Skunk Shrimp in with a Long Nosed Hawkfish and has no issues. I have a Flame Angel in with my Fire Shrimp and my Coral Banded with no issues either.

If the hawk can fit it in their mouth they might attempt. I kept my longnose with shrimp with no problem. They are predators though and in the wild will eat small fish. But they are super cool and have great personalities.
