which, if any, starfish would be OK in a 29g biocube?

My tank is almost done with its cycle and I was starting to think about what type of starfish I could put into the tank when it's ready. I plan on having several different types of corals (no sps for now), shrimps, some type of goby, clown fish pair and eventually an anemone.

My biocube has the stock lighting, intank media basket and fuge basket, hydor powerhead (425 I think).

Sure! That would be fine :)

Acclimate slowly as they're a little more touchy to large salinity and ph swings. Ammonia isn't an issue for starfish as much as fish so acclimation for once is recommended.

Just don't get a green one, it will eat things. Most other colors seem to be safe as long as you feed them meaty foods now and then.
Serpents can get large (over two feet across, counting legs) but really aren't that active and can therefore be kept in smaller tanks.

On an unrelated note, be sure you get a pistol shrimp for your goby.

Brittle stars I wouldn't trust, especially the green ones, however serpent stars usually get no bigger than 7inch to a foot in diameter counting legs spread out. Serpents and brittles are two different stars.

Red serpent stars are bright and colourful, but fairly rare. This is probably the only colourful and safe star you could keep though.

Most brittles are fine IME. Have you had a different experience?

The green serpents are distinctive enough to be avoided.

Not particularly however if I had to trust a brittle star or a serpent star with a sick cleaner goby overnight I'd trust a serpent star first :wildone: The difference in aggresion is very minor however.

Green brittles are just plain oppertunistic..

i have a red serpent but see him only once or twice a month, if that.

i have 2 brittle stars that just pretty much hang around. literally...
