Which is a better sump layout?

I use "A" with some small holes is the baffel that faces the refuge about half way down....to keep the flow in the refuge, not just on top

Hi, well a or b will work just fine..i can't see no mayor diference between them!!

Well there is a major difference in them. They flow completely different.

A: Skimmer > "fuge" > return
B: Skimmer > return < "fuge"

B is more flexible, as the flow through the "fuge" is not locked into the flow rate through the sump.

Hi, well, for me the mayor diference will be in the tubing work, in the sump, i think is not a mayor diference..only that the fuge part, the water will run slower than in the center..but..it can work either way..

Okay, so now I got my glass pieces and I have a question.
I am using a factory built tank so there is a thick layer of silicone on the bottom edges all around.
Do I scrape off little cuts into that thick layer to fit the glass piece in? Because the glass cant be straight because of the silicone on the bottom sides. Thanks

but the silicone thats already there makes it difficult to position the glass because the glass piece will be at a slight angle

i know, but the glass after it drys it will be hard, and you can put some silicone on that area, if you scrape it can leak in the future. if i were you, i just glu it like that..no chances to leak...just and opinion//

So you that have "B" T-off the return side to feed the fuge...do you have pods, Chaeto and such in your fuge? I was told by an experienced reefer to feed the fuge from the DT.
Also, how deep of sand bed do you keep in the fuge. My dimensions are 14"x14"...I want to keep pods, Chaeto, and try to get more nitrification.

Thanks for your input!

Unless you are using mechanical filtration I don't really see a difference in T'ing off the return and feeding from the display. The water just flows past the skimmer first (as most of it will not actually go through the skimmer) and then some gets dumped in the fuge. Generally I have seen recommendations that the flow through the fuge be lower than what would be recommended for a "regular" sump. This arrangement lets you have the best of both worlds.

Yes, I am going with C. with the drain from DT going to skimmer then into return pump section. And then the return pump will have a TEE going into the refugium

I use c with a variation to help controll microbubbles from the water returning from the refugium section into the return section. I placed a bulkhead near the bottom of the baffle between the refugium and the return section with an elbow going up to a stand pipe overflow in the refugium. I also placed a bulk head into the baffle between the bubble trap and the return section. I connected these two bulkheads with pvc. This way the water returning from the refugium goes through the bubble trap with the water returning from the skimmer section. This eliminates the waterfall from the refugium to the return section. Sounds complicated but works well
