i personally like the B&W one better, because it has a more dramatic look to it in my opinion. i'm aiming to frame this picture and hang it on the wall next to this pup's mother's picture who passed 6 months ago.

i'm fairly new to photography aside from previous cheapo cameras. this was taken with a Fuji Finepix s1000fd. and i still haven't figured the camera out.

Your light is a little harsh. When you shoot in stong sunlight you get real defined edges on shadows, very dark areas and blown highlights. The B&W version subdues that a little. And even though you think the picture is nice now, which it is, with proper lighting you'll see a dramatic improvement. Read some books or articles on lighting. The net must have tons and try taking some pictures during the golden hours and on overcast days.

Well is the mothers picture in color or black and white?

Your answer is my answer.

It just wouldn't look right if one was in color and the other in black-and-white...

i say go with the one you like best and it sounds like its the black and white one.... but I have to agree I am not sure how one bw and one color would look together

thanks for pointing out the focus thing, i never noticed that.

i haven't played with the mother's photo at all yet, so i haven't decided if i want that one B&W or color. most likely i'd go with B&W, but i dunno yet.

i'll see if i can get any good shots earlier or later in the day to subdue the lighting a little.
