Which live food for a Copperband?

So my CBB isn't eating Mysis like he was at the LFS before I brought him home. I thought people would crack open a clam or something and wedge it in some rocks for the CBB to find to help entice it to eat. What should I get for him? Clams, mussess? Any help is appreciated, it's been about five days since I've seen him eat (he has always been picking at the rocks though) :(

Get used to it. I don't mean to be flip, but you could go months without it eating prepared food. If you tank can grow enough micro fauna for him to feed on, then it will be OK. He should/might eventually get onto mysis and maybe even some flake, but it could take a while.

I would buy mine live blackworms or live brine to get him to start eating. Mine loved the live blackworms. Never tried the clam, but have heard of it.

How is this helpful? :rolleye1:

I believe PaulB on RC here has a good method for enriching the live blackworms. Your CBB won't last more than a month or so on regular live blackworms alone.

I also heard about the live blackworms but my LFS won't have any until tomorrow. I guess I can try cracking a clam for him to see what happens, I can't see it hurting anything. And he is showing interest in the Mysis but is spitting out the few pieces he is trying.

I used the Live Blackworms and Live brine (neither are very enriched), to get it to start eating, better than eatting nothing. I would then mix in the frozen enriched brine and frozen mysis. Once it started to eat them, then I didn't get the live food much. I had 2 last 6 months and then suddenly die. So I stoped getting them, too hard to keep.

I would personally try feeding it as many foods as it will eat. They aren't the easiest fish to keep long term. If you can get the clam, try it. I also bought frozen minced mussles and none of mine ever touched it.

I feed black worms "Selcon". I keep them in a shallow container with an airstone, don't clean the container but you can change the water,
the bacteria on the sides will keep the water clean. They can eat a lot of Selcon, I also add some liquid coral food. Copperbands should eat mostly worms. You can get frozen worms but they do not like them as much as fresh.

Even though mine readily accepts mysis, I feed mine a mussel just opened enough for him to get into. This keeps the other fish away from it and allows him time to go back to as often as he wants. I tie the mussel with aluminum wire to a veggie clip.

I gave mine a treat today and collected a bunch of baby saltwater sand worms. That is by far his favorite food.
