Thanks for the info. I know I got took :( Was not a wise purchase. I do want more tho. They are cool snails :)

hey I will sell you some of my snails for half of what you paid that is a great deal.:D

JK

we have a made unwise purcheses in this hobby. I know I have over paid on many occasions but I just had to have that fish or coral on that day :( :o

Just bought an item from CoralReef Pet Center and they did give me a discount. As for price they were the same as internet price.

Price comparison.

Living Sea $167
Old Orchard $134
Internet $90
CoralReef $90

Jim:

I haven't had this problem. I show the card. Sometimes the cashier will ask what the discount is. I say 10% because that is what I recall Jim (the store's Jim) telling me.

I bought some inverts from Ocean Design in Chicago. I have to say that Tony is pretty knowledgable but his staff cannot recognize shrimp and crabs. I am not going there again as it.

I always thought that the world would spin off of its axis if pet shop staff became knowlegable. Besides you can't get $12 shrimp for $8 if they know the difference. :D

Jeff-that cracks me up. Two of my favorite wrasses weren't wrasses at all, according to the labeling & authorities at a LFS by me. I was sorry to see it close a couple months ago...they seemed to get some unusual stuff and many fish were marked "assorted ____"

I have to go with Sho-tank in mundelein, Matt has the best prices, bar none. I bought a beautiful Majestic (sm/md adult) from him about a year ago for $90, I went to Sea Shell (at Old Orchard) this weekend, they had the same fish that was about a half inch bigger for $240!!!!

For those coming from Wisconsin, sho-tank is easy, a few miles west off 94 in mundelein. The website is here, not updated often, but he does have a pdf pricelist, it is very close to mail order prices and you can walk right in and buy them.

Splash of Life

Splash of Life

Have to give 2 frags up for the gang at Splash of Life in Elburn. No doubt the drive is not fun but their assortment of SPS, both frags and colonies, rivals anyone in chicagoland w/o question. Prices are good relative to any LFS selling frags of brown M digitata for 40+ where you can get some great looking frags for half that at SoL. Last but not least are Brett and Casey who are very knowledgeable and helpful which is also a change relative to the LFS we deal with usually. Worth the drive for sure. HTH.

You forgot Old Town Aquarium located on North Ave and Wells St. in the city. That place gets some really cool stuff. :)

i went to sho-tank in mundelein like two weeks ago.

that was the most disapointing petstore i have ever gone to. He didn't say a word to even though no one was in the store. the most rare thing he has was in his display tank and it was a derasa clam that was 3 inchs :( i then walked into the are with the holding tanks and i saw 4 fish a juv emperor, cowfish, a big ell, and i can't even remeber the last one. didn't even see one coral in there either except the like 4 in his display tank.
How his website is i was expect in a really nice store with a large amount of dry goods but that is just a list of what he can order.
Any pet store can order that stuff and so can you from the internet.

It's not that Old Town was forgotten. The original idea behind this poll was to figure out where CMAS members get a discount and if the store is worth the driving distance before you head out that way.

Old Town is not currently a CMAS Sponsor but if you would like them added to the poll that can be arranged. The trouble is that most members have already voted and once you vote you can't vote again.

No big deal..I just like that store :) If they did offer a discount it wouldn't matter much anyway. They are really expensive but have some rare stuff.
