Which RODI system?

I'm looking to get a gpd and could use recommendations
I have a 16gal tank so I don't need a lot of water and was considering the following:

BRS 4 Stage Value PLUS RO/DI System - 75GPD
Or
AquaFX Barracuda RO/DI Unit - 50 GPD

Any suggestions or recommendations? I want one that is small and can fit under my sink but does a good job. I know the one from brs will put put more water but I'll never need 50 gallons unless I get a bigger tank and even then I don't want anything bigger than a 50 gallon tank.

Keep in mind that you will likely want to upgrade eventually and also that those numbers are a best case scenario. It is also rated over a full 24 hours. I just purchased and installed an ispring 75GPD RODI system that I got on Amazon for $230...So far it has been awesome. I split off the water lines, so I have RO water to drink and RODI water for the tank. :-)

I bought mine off eBay few years ago, I think I got it for about 100 bucks.
The water reads 0 TDS everytime. Its a solid RO/DI. This is a 4 stage system as well. It also came with two sets of filters. I'd check out eBay. Most of them are just generic filters that fit most filter cartridges and are a quarter of the cost but filters just as well.

Remember 1 thing though. Those cheap RO units u see online are mostly designed for drinking water and not for hobby use. Thier cartridges are not as sturdy as for our use and sometimes u cannot find replacement cartridges for them either. Another thing to remember is sometimes those cheap units do not have DI stage or if any it's barely any good. So here money does matter over time. I would only buy from our reputable vedonds/sponsor here. There are at least 3 or 4 of them on RC.

I have a BRS 75GPD 5 Stage RO/DI. BRS is a great site with awesome costumer service and the refill kits for the cartridges are always right on their site. Oh and I recommend getting one with a TDS meter.

There is truth in this, I got lucky. I live in the PNW about ten miles from the ocean. My waters TDS right out of the tap is 25ppm TDS on a bad day. So there isn't much left to filter out.

So if your TDS is high straight out of the tap. Then I would go with one of the reputable sponsors on here as well.

I made the mistake of buying a smaller unit because I intended to start small and then this Reef addiction/affliction started and now I have 2! the smaller unit just didn't cut it. go as big as you can afford, you go thru a lot of water in this hobby!

BRS is a pretty trusted one that is used quite often.

FWIW, I've never heard any complaints on their RO/DI units before.

The actual system consists in the cylinders, and you refill them: how OFTEN you refill them is dependent on quality. How many cylnders you need in your system is somewhat dependent on how bad your local water is, or how bad/old your house piping is.

My advice is get a system that will do you for a larger tank (most everyone upsizes) and that has a reliable source of re-supply for the cylinder medium---ie, can you go online, order refills, and get the right thing reliably?

Thanks for all the advice so far! As a very busy mom of two, I won't be upgrading any time soon and if I do my limit would be a 75 gallon. My 16 gallon is enough works and expense as is. With that being said I did find an AquaFX 100gpd on amazon for the same price as the 75gpd at BRS.

So just based on the brand quality, which would you guys recommend?

So, the AquaFX has been great so far. There's one complaint and that is you have to pay and additional $40 for an auto-shutoff kit, clip tubes, rerun them, etc. why not include auto-shutoff at manufacturing? So when I want to use the system I have to unhook my washing machine and run the rodi system for an hour and then reconnect my washer....

But with all that being said.... Oh my GOODNESS I can't believe I ever used tap water. The difference in my tank is phenomenal.

I just got mine today from the Dr.'s to replace a Spectrapure and am pleased with what it is producing . I'll see over time.
