can you mix these salts ? or is that a bad idea ? If you have one that gives you all the elements you want and another that yields you the alk or ca or maybe you have half a bucket of one and half of another ?

sure you can.

everytime I change salt, I do a water change with half half [half old salt half new salt] and lower the percentage of old salt with every water change.

it would be better to stick with a balanced salt though, that way you dont have to change ure balling dosing everytime after water change.

I used IO, I was using hW it works but is $$, switched to RSCP almost lost everything, switched back to IO and it's been smooth sailing outside of the pests which aren't related to my salt.. ha

No offense, but I wish people would research what is out there before creating these polls. For example, there is no such thing as seachem sea salt. Seachem makes reef salt, marine salt and the newer aqua vitro salinity.

I use seachem reefsalt and have had good results.

I just switched from DD to reef crystals. I like the reef crytals more because it mixes much cleaner. I found DD to have vary small brown balls floating on the surface of freshly mixed water?????? Did not seem to have a negative effect though.

FYI, there's reef salt and there's FOWLR salt. Reef salt is ime a bit more expensive because it contains trace elements the FOWLR lacks, so know which you need.

Personally I use Oceanic, with a kalk drip as a supplement---lps reef, excellent growth.

All SPS tank, I switched to Reef Crystals from Red Sea Coral Pro. It's cheaper, and with all the TOTM that have used it, its pretty tried and true. Any salt you'll find a bad batch from somebody

None of the above, Have always used Oceanic salt. Measures decent, mixes great and is dirt cheap. Have never had any issues.
