which size SEIO?

I want to increase the flow in a 6 foot, 125 gallon reef at work. The tank contains LPS, softies, and a few SPS. Presently there is a RIO 12HF main return pump and one Maxi-jet 1200. This is what was installed by the LFS. The tank has one end overflow, but I would think that it would flow more that the 12HF (it is at 4 foot of head) So, what to do, mod the MJ, put a 620, 820, 1100 SEIO, or I was thinking of going with a Wave2K in the end opposite of the overflow. Please advise. thanks tommy

I have an 1100 in my 4ft 90g. With the wider flow pattern, I certainly don't think it would be too much in a 6ft 125. They're very easy to dial back if desired.

oh it sent smoke coming out of the water
Wow, that's scary. I've used the 620, 820, and 1100. They're not top of the line, but in 2 years I've never had one smoke on me. Did it lose power and fail to restart? How old was it? Did you return it for a refund?

It was an 1100, it wasnt that new but it was working great. it was running fine and then I witnessed the smoke come out of the water.

I love my seio 820, but since I haven't had it long I can't comment on the long-term performance of these PHs. I've just ordered a Seio 1500 for my 90g (Mag 9.5 return & 820 will be on one side, 1500 on the other) because I'm so pleased with the 820. Many people swear by the Maxi mods as well, I think either would work just fine to increase flow in your tank. If you really want to get spendy, Tunze makes the best powerheads out there and AFAIK they're much more suited to wavemakers than Seios are.

I dont recomend the sieo's mine shorted out.

So you had one go bad on you and that makes them all bad??? I have had zero problems with my either one of mine.

Is it? That pump will put out 2500gph, roughly the same as a Seio 2600. The seio and maxi mod will cost roughly the same when everything is said and done however the maxi mod will take up FAR less space than the seio ;)

Yeah if you have a 125 i say go with the SEIO 2600, i have had that working for almost two years, NO ISSUES, most of my LFS use SEIO, never had a problem there either.

I have heard quite a bit negative about the maxijet construction being on the poor side though.

I'm just saying for what it is it is expensive. It's kinda like spending hundreds of dollars on a plastic skimmer with a pump that doesn't cost much to make.

Wait for the nanostreem 6055 they will be controllable. (a little pricy though) or the 6045 which will push around 1200 GPH. A steal for 104.50 IMO.

Yes THAT kit is a bit pricy however to my knowledge it is the only one that comes with mounting stuff as well.

while I am asking, I have a 180 FO tank at home that is run soley off of a RIO 2500 return, split between two nozzles on either end of the back of the tank. What would others suggest for a fish only tank? My concern is settled deitirus, I was thinking two pumps on opposite corners, or one large in the center of the back
\ / \ | /, how's that for simple graphics!

My maxi mod 900 replaced my two seio 800's in my 55, the flow is Phenomenal! Oceanflo talked me out of the 1200, boy am I glad they did.
