Which sps to start with?

Hi friends,

Have a small nano of 2 ft (L)x 15 in(W) x 12in (H)...

Have softies and LPS with RO NW -110 skimmer , phosphate reactor..

Lights are 2 ATI blueplus and 2 Osram 6500 K..

Wanna start with sps...

Which will be easier to start with? Purple montipora or green slimmer acropora..

Of course make sure your system is ready for sps first!! But if all is good i would start with a couple of monti caps, and maybe some birdsnest those are probably the hardiest.. imo

The problem is I live in India where corals are banned.. so have to buy what 's available at hand..

Parameters are all stable .. so wanted to try out..

Frags available are purple monti , green slimmer acro and all browned out montis..

Is it possible for the browned to colour up..

Both are pretty hearty species, but the montis are much more resilient. The browned out monti's could color up, but it'll take time. I've noticed that wild caught and maricultured pieces have a tendency to brown out when acclimating to captivity. They could take months to over a year to regain their color.

Since your in India and corals are hard to come by and you have to get them on the black market I guess you just work with on what you could get. If you don't mind me asking how much are corals in India in US dollars? I've heard that everything has been impacted by inflation, but I'm curious to see what corals are going for.

I would say the green slimer since it grows more open and spred out. If it takes off you can still have other corals around it. If the monti takes off your entire tank is going to be one giant monti.

Well keeping a small reef tank in India takes lot of money but a 4 feeter or above costs a fortune..
Here you won't get frags so very easily.. all you will get are taken from wild ..

And frags can cost you a lot.. like I paid around 50 $ for a piece of turbanaria paltata..

Well I can choose to go with purple monti but its difficult to maintain the colour and it may turn brown..Whereas green slimmer ..its easy to maintain the colour if I can keep the coral alive..

So torn in between the two..

monti for sure. Other easy SPS corals to keep are monti digitata and encrusting montis.

Birds nest can be easy but some varieties are actually difficult to maintain.
