While drinking beer

So the other night I was drinking a couple of beers cleaning out my sump. Instead of throwing away my cheato I was trimming away I decided to put some in my tank. I have three tangs Yellow,Kole, and a Sailfin. The loved it. Can feeding cheato take the place of seaweed for tangs. Rather use it for food then throw it away. Good or Bad anyone?

ialways give my yellow tang a little treat of the live stuff as apposed to the dried seaweed. i havent had any problems so far

The only problem I've ever heard about with feeding fish chaeto is that most fish won't eat it: they aren't interested. If yours will eat it, I don't know of any reason not to give it to them.

You might want to look up its nutritional content to see if its as good as what you've been feeding them previously though. For all I know, Chaeto could be fine to eat, but ultimately deficient in key nutrients that would need to be supplemented by more variety.

One thought, macro is primarily a means to export nutrients. Keep in mind whatever goes back in isn't an export. With that said, the little guy has to eat.

Right, but isn't it a net zero, if it's in place of nutirents (other seaweeds) he would otherwise be adding? Probably plenty still to export. Seems kind of like a nice internal cycle of the nutrients to me, but not one to sustain or rely on. Pretty cool either way.

I didn read somewhere on RC that if you feed tangs too much cheato, they can become constipated and die as it is not easily digestable. Not sure if it is true or not, but that was one person's experience.

usually, any time a thread starts with "while drinking beer" it doesn't end well.lol

Hey who let you in here?

LoL I have gotten alot of answers to this question. Some good some bad. I posted it in the new to the hobby form. I guess I will keep doing it and see what happens. Maybe I should stop drinking beer during tank cleaning time.
