White Channel died on my lights

Hey Reefers,

I have Maxxspect R420 lights. 2 channel A-white B-blue.

A channel isn't working, they're are still under warranty so not a issue getting them fixed or replaced but the earliest I can go to the store is next Wednesday. Will my Corals be okay until then with only the blue channel?

Yeah they will be fine. Most LFS exclusively use actinics for their tanks. White's are for growth blues are for color. Yes there is more to that statement, but for sake of argument, your tank will be just fine. It sucks your lights failed you though. GL!

Cap, every time I get a bit of algae in my tanks, I don't go 3 days of lights out. I go 3 days or more of all blue until the algae is gone. BTW, if I take out the whites I dial up the blue to make sure I still have enough PAR to get photosynthesis started.

Awesome info as always Ron!

Thanks.

I actually managed to fix them :lolspin: one of the LED has a bad connection, I just pushed it back in. I will still be bringing them back for replacement but at least my tank isn't all blue until then :fun2:

Today wan't a good day, I woke up to about 20g of water on my floor :uhoh2: I adjusted the gate valve on my skimmer last night before going to bed, needless to say it over flowed

Never play with the aquarium equipment after 9 o'clock.

Isn't your skimmer in the sump?

Do you have a remote storage attached to the skimmer that is then outside the sump?

I have one and I keep that external storage in a 7 gallon bucket just in case... who am I trying to fool... WHEN my storage container overflows (even though it has a flow valve that is meant to stop the overflow). It's saved me several times.

Never adjust the skimmer to make more and then walk away. If you dial it up, check it several times over the next hour. I set a timer on my phone and check 3 times, every 20 minutes. Otherwise I forget... what was I talking about...:spin3:

That is a lot of water on the floor. How much damage to the house did it do?

Ron,

Yes my Skimmer is in my sump bur the edge of the collection cup is pretty much even with the side and front panel of the sump walls. I need to rework its positioning. If it just slowly overflows then it falls back into the sump but if there is any kind of pressure or bubbling then some water falls outside of it :(

I usually adjust and recheck several times as you mentioned. However I was traveling on business for the week and when I got home Thursday night my skimmer had not been skimming properly. I don't know why but it was only producing about 1" of bubbles, so it was really low. I gave the gate valve 1/2 turn and saw it rise to normal level (bubble production) and figured it was okay and walked away.

So not a good few days, skimmer wasn't working pproperly, Nitrates were over 50 ppt, I could barely see through the tank due to the algae build up. Skimmer over flowed adding a bunch of FW to the tank from my ATO. Salinity dropped 1.022 (still okay) but all trace elements are down now. Will be doing a 20% WC today. And then my lights stopped working and had a crap load of water to pick up.

RW- as for water damage i dont have any. My tank in in my basement, it kind of just made a small, long shallow river in my living room. I dont think it had been there long. I used about 15 towels to soak it all up. Everything seems okay today. Thankfully!

That is why I keep a dedicated shopvac for the fish room.

Bucket head vac from Home Depot--compact, cheap, uses a five gallon bucket I already had. Makes sump and spill cleaning easy.
