Where can I get a good amount for a good price? I need to fill up 4'x4' box with 6" of sand.

This is not for reef tank :D .. It's for my boys's sandbox. I checked out HD and OSH but the sand aren't white. Thanks for your help guys :) ..

We got a 25lb box from "Lakeshore Learning Materials" for around $20 (for the refugium).

In Boston, we used to buy Southdown sand (aragonite) for 50 lbs for $8. Maybe you could work on getting a pallet of Southdown out here; you could sell it to other reefers if you get more than you need.

You probably need about 650-700 lbs for the size sandbox you describe.

Thanks :D .. Any cheaper place guy??

Just go to the beach, you won't get "white" white, but you can get sorta-close to white. If memory serves there's a beach near San Gregorio along the coast that has a salt & pepper colored sand (more pepper than salt), Monterey had white beaches. Bottom line is you're not going to get southdown or any type of "white" sand (atleast that you want to use for a kids play box) for home depot "Play Sand" prices. You could get sand blasting sand but as fine as that stuff is I would not recommend it for a kids play area.

Go down to Carmel, the sand is powder soft and quite white and it's free. Take your van down there and take a few hundred lbs home. :D

It's ok to take sand from the beach??
If nobody see's you ;)

I didn't think it's legal.. I have no problem paying for it but not at $1 a lbs. I need 500-600 lbs and that is a lot if I have to pay $1 a lbs. If I can't find it anywhere I will just have to buy the brown sand at OSH.
Nobody here have sand box for your kids??? :D

You won't find sand any nicer than the sands on Carmel that's for for sure. It's gonna cost ya to fill that box man.

I have a sandbox for my 3 yr old son that I filled w/ HD sand--works fine although not as nice as white sand. Sand boxes make a big mess as it always gets stuck on him then gets it in the house.

Dannie,
Fill up you rig in Carmel Drive to Elite's house and charge him $300. Dunno but it sounds like a deal to me.:D

I prefer coarse sand to fine sand. Fine sand is a PITA to clean and it gets into everything. I have not heard a kid complain about the texture of the sand.

hehehe.. I don't have dog or cat. I don't think my fish like sandbox that much.

I just like it white because it looks cleaner.. I guess I just get the stuff from OSH..
Thanks Guys :)

don't get sands from the beach,i remenber tyree said the sand from the beach contain alot nasty bacteria.i would love to see danni cars loaded with sands tho :) instance lowrider .

mendocino (3 hours north) has amazingly white sand as well. Like Carmel, but much more secluded so less trash and stuff. In fact, I believe Waikiki Beach sometimes gets sand imported from Mendocino area. (waikiki has eroded so much, they get sand sometimes from CA from what I've heard from my friends in College at UofH)
