Ive had one in my tank about 5-6 years.
Under 2" and very docile to the point of being the complete opposite of everything you read about maroons
I thinking about getting her a young mate. the LFS never carries them.
every pic i ever see on online is a gold/yellow stripe.

Any reason there not as popular?
I guess ill have to order one.

are you saying you have had a white stripe maroon for almost six years and its only two inches?? that seems very odd to me.. i had a maroon for a year and it put on almost and inch and a half, maybe two..

ok maybe 5 years.
only pic i have here from a few months ago when i put them in a storage tank while i replaced by substrate

I guess theres more of a species difference between white and gold stripe.

No, not really. The size change is often spurred by sexual maturation. I had a 3 year old gold-striped maroon that was only about 2" long. I got it a mate and within about six months it had almost doubled in size.

Also, don't expect your "docile" maroon to stay that way in the presence of another maroon. You will find your resident fish will turn very nasty - both to the new arrival, and if the pair bond, to other outsiders, like your hands!

Good luck,
Kevin

Im pick'n up what your putt'n down.

I may just hold off for now, i dont even have any anememememone's
Just dont have the lighting.

Just kind odd that 2 LFS's stock tons of gold stripe. and never white. They said they'll order some on request but dont stock them normaly cause they dont sell.

Nasty buggers.... My male attacks my hand like there is no tomorrow. Every time I stick my hand in there I threaten him with the toilet. Never fails he attacks me like a pirahna. :O)
