Get them from Pacific East, they are the only importer and everyone else buys from them and upcharges prices. I got a 4.5 inch from them and it's gorgeous. The same fish from DD is over 300.00.

This isn't true unless Paceast is also wholesaling straight out of Polynesia. The store in Mke referred above buys them direct and the initial batch they had a year or two ago they were $79 a piece.

Some of them currently in the store are less than 4 inches, so you should be able to snag a smaller one.

(granted I just moved all 3 fish to the larger tank two days ago). Had all 3 of them in a 10 gallon for a week with no issues.Still have yet to really see it eat anything yet though, I've been trying frozen, nori sheets, nlg pellets, soaked in garlic xtreme. I hope it starts to come around soon. Rest of the fish are eating no issues.

My mates pair of Ocellaris clowns are so mean. They are beating up the white tail Bristletooth tang I just got today. I'm about to throw them in the sump. Any suggestions? Please help!!!

Have you tried acclimation box? also, did you quarantine your white tail?

Why did you remove him from qt if he wasn't eating? It would have been a good time to have him by himself and get him eating without competition. Granted a 10 gallon is probably too small, even a 20 gallon would be a big help.

I think it went from a 10 gal QT to 40 gal QT, not main display.

So, clowns were beating up MY tang, between that and the stress of the transfer MY fish got ich. I'm doing the TTM with him now.

I'm on day 8 of the TTM. Two more transfers to go then into the QT. The tang isn't eating pellets or flakes. Should I be trying frozen? Is it normal for fish to not eat during the TTM? I mean he is living in a 5 gallon bucket this guy is probably depressed. Any help please?

Yes. Definitely. Most fish will go after frozen before eating dry food.

Most I've seen online have been listed anywhere from 100-300$. If you are getting a healthy specimen I would have no problem dropping 200-300$ for one. At least if you are buying it off of a hobbyist the chances of it having disease/parasites go way down as long as the hobbyist goes through proper quarantine. You should avoid the stresses of shipping which is always beneficial with tangs.

It was in my DT. I noticed it 36 hours after introducing it. I'm not even sure if it was ich or it just getting the @!?# kicked out of it by my clown. It was bilateral appearing on the tips of the dorsal and pelvic fins. There just 2-3 spots on the body. When I caught the fish I was able to brush the spots off which made me think it wasn't ich but just to be safe I decided to TTM/QT it. It was getting the pretty beat up anyways so might be a good idea to get it settled and eating before it has to defend its self again.

I bought one from live aquaria, around 6" and it was 300 bucks. The best part? He started tearing into my gorgs, zoas, open brains, plate coral and finally clam mantles. I just removed all my rock and drained the tank 2 weeks ago to catch him. Now he lives in a 20L until I can decide what to do with him.

Well he is now eating Sprinula Mysis pellets. I have been feeding algae wafers, nori, and rods frozen food. Today is the first day I have seen him eating the pellets with my own eyes. Nearly two weeks and the whitetail and the blueface angel are both eating well

Yes sorry for the delay, broke down the 10g as a QT and set up a 40b as a permanent qt for all future fish.

Well it's official I lost my tang today in the TTM. I messed up. It's my fault. The fish jumped out of the bucket and took a 5 foot dive onto the concrete. Either the fall seriously injured him or I let the oxygen levels get too low and he suffocated. Sad day. I'm very upset and frustrated. Expensive fish. Learning experience. Guess it's time to try again but doing it a little different this time.

Is a 20g hex too small to QT a tang in? Do I need a 20g long?

Yes to the 20. and if he did have Ich, and was in your DT, then your DT has Ich. Your Dt can have Ich without affecting other fish as they may have developed an immunity to it.

I'm not sure if the tang had ich. Retrospectively, based on my previous experience with freshwater ich and from what I observed in this case specifically I'd say it did not have ich. Some of the spots wiped off with the brush of my finger. Ich is encrusted into the tissue and does not wipe off. The spots on the fins were bilateral/symetrical appearing at just the tips. I figure that was from it getting in fights with my clown. I was being cautious thinking it could be ich I think it might be I'm not sure. That compounded with the fact that it wasn't eating, stress of the transfer and battle wounds from fighting. I decided to QT it to get it healthy, bring its stress level down and get it eating before reintroducing it to the tank. It's too bad the fish died in the transfer process. I'll probably be trying this again but I'm going about it differently.

So I guess I have two questions...

Has anyone seen a fish develop ich in the first 36 hours after transfer?

Should I treat the DT with kick ich just to be cautious?
