White thing?

There is something hanging off the tail of my yellow tang, it's been there for about 4 days now.

What is it?

Some insight: they have been in an 1.009 salinity environment for about 11 days, the signs of ich have subsided after the 4th day. So I can attest that it doesn't look anything like the ich cyst.

Any Ideas???

Lymphocystis, it's not really treatable, just provide good water quality and food and it will go away on it's own.

Lympho is similar to warts on humans, if you want something to compare it to.

You can gently remove it with your fingernails and treat with a good dip or bio bandage. I've done it a lot with new fish coming in from suppliers. Cleaner shrimp or peppermints will remove them as well.

It seems to fit the description and if it is in fact lymphocystis, it doesn’t look to bad (considering the pictures on the net)

So now I just have to allow for a stress free environment and hope the cyst doesn’t get any bigger or multiply. It says that the virus can cross over to similar genus, I hope it doesn't infect the powder blue (if it hasn’t already) that's in the QT with him.

So fingers crossed.

vwtanker, I have a fire red in the DT but no cleaners or peppermints.

An update, the white spot is no longer there, either it fell off or went away, if it was a virus I will probably see it again in the future. If it was a fungus hopefully it doesn't come back.

Thanks everyone for your help.
