Who are the Flame Angel Harem guru's?

Hi All,

I know there has been a million billion trillion threads on this - I am just trying to track down who has actually tried this, over a considerable time frame ...... as oppose to those who merely contemplated or planned it?

Many thanks,

Matt

In a larger tank you could probably do a harem, in a smaller tank I would just go with a pair.

I've paired my C. argi's but pairing angels in general isn't that hard.

But yes flameangel has done it and Recty had a harem.

I definitely don't have the long term results to post but here are the recent experiences with FAs. Check with Jaken and his harem was beautiful.

In 2006 I'd 4 small FAs in 75g over a year where I didn't have a dominant male but the 3 bigger one pick on the smallest till it died. Unfortunately during the move in Sep 2007 the tank crashed and had to start over.

I upgraded to 180g (fowlr) in October 2007 and started out with 6 FAs ranging from 1.75-2.25" and the largest female emerged and changed to male a little over a year later. During this period there were quite a bit of chasing, nipping from largest toward smaller. Around April this year I lost 3 (one was emerging as a male) to velvet after introducing a Blueline angel. The remaining 3 are doing well and the male is about 3.25-3.5" and spawn almost every night with both females during late summer and early fall. This was one right after the other without any break which lead me to believe I've a "Super-male".

After watching them closely the past two years I can say the group of three seem to be happier then where was 6. I'm not sure if this is due to another emerging male or the tight space they are confined to.

As for so-existing with other angels I find them to be very easy going and they were the first angels to be in the tank besides Blueface and Emperor which I no long have.

Subsequent angels in the order it was added:
Watanabe
Bellus
Meredithi
Bandit
Lemonpeel
Blueline
Flagfin
Coral Beauty
Venustus
Goldflake

I'm totally surprised there was no problem at all when I added the Venustus. Had an issue for couple of weeks when I added Lemonpeel and Coral Beauty. Also had a problem with Colin's angel but I attribute its death to collection issue.

I think I've covered everything but LMK if you have any questions.

Well thanks for the input guys - but I'm a little risk adverse at the moment..... if it is anything other than straight forward it just sends me running....

Matt,

IMHO they are no more difficult than adding any other fish to a system. If you have plenty of liverocks for them to graze on, use for shelter and finding 1 male & 2 females (or 2 small and 1 med) will enhance your success rate. The last part is to monitor them closely as you would when adding new fish.

I used to have to sweat when adding fish but ever since removing the changing juv Emperor and med Powder Blue I no long worry and just use a container to allow them to acclimate to each other for 2-3 days.
