Who are the SPS Veterans?

I remember Jeff at H20 Tropicals. He was the one that sold me my first reef tank in 1988-1990. It is really amazing seeing the break throughs he has had with protein skimmers. I remember seeing the prototypes on his tanks. His main display in his original version of his store was amazing. VHO's were the top of the line back then. If I remember correctly it was softies and LPS. The days when caulerpa was legal in California.

I am still here. I have to admit though I don’t keep as many sps. I have started keeping a more wide variety of corals. I really like to keep the different goniopora right now. I still have sps too. But I really like some of the challenge. I am actually setting up a new tank.

Gary your tank have always been amazing. Always nice to see people like you are still in the hobby. Your tank should be tank of the month or something.

what is amazing is the first post in this thread was from 2004.

Wow, old thread...I've kept SPS off and on since 91 and remember some of those old days ;) I actually always wondered what happened with Jeff from Jeff's Exotic Fish. He was one of the first people to bring in and sell corals inexpensively, which I think helped make the hobby more widespread...

Fifteen years and going. Current tank more than 10 years old and so is my DSB...LOL. I still remember Iwasaki being the best MH bulb on the market.

This thread will not/must not ever die. Fantastic stories and info from the early "home" (cough, Joe, cough) aquarium stony coral days....doesn't get any better! BTW, it was a pleasure to meet you in September, Joe.

Keep pushing the limits everyone!

Beautiful tank Gary, got any FT shots?
Just someday I might have something that beautiful

Getting back into the hobby

Getting back into the hobby

After many years out of the game..I'm goin to start up again...40 gallon breeder or maybe the old 65 oceanic.

Thinking of my old setup...minimal rock..bare flooor, huge flow and plenty light...3-400's

2 iwasakis powered ny mv ballasts
And a radium on hqi

Looking to hear some thoughts on what the current methodologies are?

Also in search of some local reefers who may have got some frags from me..that I am interested in getting a hold of once again

Turqouis stag
Blue tort
Baby blue tort
Purple rim blue polyp cap
Tyree PM Orig

Hope to read some responses!

It is funny seeing the conversations between these guys. i probably met Tyree somewhere around the start of this thread. I remember going on a road trip accross washington State to go to KevinPo's store(2005) . kevin used to come to our meetings every so often and he is one of the legends for sure. I remember hearing and reading about the solomon Island disks and the equipment back then. equipment has come a long way and so has SPS coral.

Hello,
I was PM'd about this thread so I thought I would update my status. Still have the 600 going since 2001. I had to move it in 2008 and again in 2010. In 2008 the tank started to really fail so I actually didn't move the tank just transferred everything to a new (read better tank). The next tank is always better right :lolspin:
Here are some pictures taken 11/08 about 5 months after transferring everything.

Cheers,
Kevin
