Very nice Greg :)

Anything you think important to point out to anyone considering this fish that I maybe havent considered??

well, they don't do a lot except sit there and look pretty (altho about 90% of our fish are like that). they will recognize the "food god" tho and come crutching over.

check the fish's lower lip of "bag rub", and make sure that if there is any that it's not too bad as it can become infected. make sure its eyes are clear.

these fish are about "average" difficulty in terms of weaning to dead foods.

make sure the fish isn't housed with any browsing fish or known nippers.

they will shed their cuticle about twice a month, and their stretching/gilling activities just prior to this can look a bit alarming at first.

these fish do best with some type of substrate (i like #3 grade aragonite). our fish seem to prefer open areas (mostly), but also love to hang out in the live macro we run in their tanx.

our specimens seem to get "antsy" if the trates rise too high.

oh...these fish can, and often do change color based on their surroundings (you'll notice the yellow fish turned "tequila sunrise" for us, and regularly shifts its hue from orange to pink.

they are super fish...and definitely one of the "holy grails" of the scorpionfish world. it's very cool to peek into your tank and see something so awesome looking back at you.

Besides the insane shape the fish take on, their eyes alone are something to behold as well IMO. I clearly remember that from the one I have seen in person

So you think BB is a no go?? All of my tanks are bb at the moment. But I have lots of tanks and could easily throw a satellite in there and throw some sand in if it was a prerequisite. Im actually thinking that the sand wouldnt be necessary though.

thoughts??

Have you ever weaned any off of live? What do you feed yours??

Ive weaned a volitan and a dwarf fuzzy off of live many years ago.

It took me a month of effort with the two established lions.

So from a quick browsing on that site, it appears it is pretty much the same task in getting it done

I am still curious as to greg's input on the BB thing

we currently have our Eschmeyer's coming out of a BB hypo tank (with some PVC fittings to sit among), and it has done OK, but it just hasn't been as "settled" as when it was in a tank that had substrate. this fish "paces" a bit more in the BB setup. it did not, however rub its chin on the side of the tank. you could try it and see how your particular fish does.

bobby,

a 55 would do nicely for a Rhino. they max out at about 8" TL and aren't a heavy-bodied fish. the volitans you see in that pic is a big fish...it's full-grown and is close to 13" TL (we've had it about 3 years...since it was the size of a walnut).

a 55 is too small for a volitans, but you could definitely keep one of the medium-bodied lions (P. radiata, P. antennata, P. mombassae) with the Rhino. in fact, there have been some SWEET P. mombassae showing up lately, altho none have been properly ID'd (they usually ID them as P. antennata, but i've seen them ID'd as D. zebra and P. miles as well).

here's a pic of our new Mombasa lion:

BTW, Frank Marini (FMarini here on RC) has a "must have" book hitting the stands the first part of June entitled Lionfish and Other Scorpionfish, and if you haven't read his excellent lionfish care guide, i highly recommend it:
