Who has been buying Acropora abrotanoides

I got a frag from Dan a year ago. It is a very slow grower and lost its color for the first few months. It is still encrusting.

my experience with the Abro..

acquired August 2009..

Did very well for months, grew and kept its colours.

March 2010.

It was growing so well that I decided to move it to a new location to give it more room.

BIG MISTAKE. Granted, it may be unrelated to the move, but as soon as I moved it to its new location it started to go down hill and died :-(

Anyway, I have a new Abro now and put it in the same spot as the old one (Very High Light, High Flow)..

I am NEVER going to move this one, EVER

...so far so good..

They seem to be very sensitive to changes in light levels. I had one, doing good for a few months, then my actinic t5 bulbs burned out (2 of 7 bulbs over the coral). In a matter of days it was dead. My other abrotanoides under the other half of the light fixture that didn't lose actinics remained perfectly fine.

Damn acros always keeping it interesting

And like the gluttons for punishment that we are we keep coming back for more

Amen brother, amen! I'm sure there is a diagnosis that fits us in the phys journals.

Both of you are 100% on the money here.

Last time I was at Cherry Corals, they had a couple of very nice abros. I was tempted, but decided against it. Something told me not do do it, so I didn't. They had them directly under 400W MH, Radiums I think. Strong flow as well, but primarily strong light. They were located up high in the center of a raceway.

In any case, it's a beautiful coral that one day, I'll try in an upcoming system. Not sure I'll do so in the current system, though.

I had the red and green one and when it started to take off it just was too thick and just did not like the look so I took it out of the display. It is an extremely thick branched coral

I acquired an Abro in late November 2012:

Here it is in February 2013:

I also have mine in high flow, high light and it continues to progress nicely.
It´s a slow grower for me but there is some evolution in the present time since these February pics.
I will try to take a top down shot in the coming days.

Is this one? Just picked it up for 5 bucks because I though it looked like these.

Old thread but found a picture of this coral and searched it out. Brought me here. Are any of these going strong still?

I have three in my tank, a red, a green with pink tips, and a green thats starting to get it its pink tips back. Have had the green with pink tips for about 10 months now. I do love the abrotos/robustas

Pics:

I lost mine. I had a melt down and lost all my acropora colonies due to someone dumping a large amount of pine sol in my systems.

Ouch... I had an ex-wife 23 years ago that upon my suggestion we separate poured a gallon of some household cleaner into my tank.. Needless to say I divorced her *** LOL
