WHO HAS SEEN THe Purple Tilefish?

In Memoriam
I got this guy in the same day I got my Powder Blue Tang. He's very shy, about 6" long and the most strikingly colorful fish I have ever seen! He's doing very well, and is very secure in his lair under the rocks! His eyes are such irredescent blue that it takes your breath away! I'll get better pictures as he becomes less shy! I'd HIGHLY recommend these fish!

jumpers!!!
Difficult feeders.
Otherwise great reef saf efish. Had two now one going on 7 months

They can fit through holes you wouldnt dream they could escape through. Can knock off eggcrate too. Beautiful fish, but do make sure you keep him with very peaceful tankmates, keep him very well fed, and LOCK your lid down- LOL

Mysis, Cyclopeeze, and Krill. I have a VERY tight canopy....he'll have to jump through exhaust fans in the top of the canopy to get out!

It is SUPPOSED to be from Malcives...but who ever really knows! I'll just do what I do for all of my fish and corals...Give them the very best that I can!

5 Tangs (Yellow, Scopas, Sailfin, Purple, and Powder Blue) Pairs of Pink Skunk Clowns, ORA Oscillarus, Bangai Cardinals, 5 Lryetail Anthias, African Midas Blenny, Stigmatus Blenny, Bi-color Pseudochromis.

Really cool fish. I've seen them at a couple places lately. I was considering getting one but read how tricky they are and decided not to push my luck. Keep us updated.

Nevermind, just looked it up. What would you suggest to get them feeding? Do they require anything special in their diet?

I got two about 8 months ago.
One killed himself jumping against the canopy.

As far as food both of mine were eating frozen and within a week after they ventured out of their cave ate pretty much everything.

flakes-pellets and so forth.

I've kept tiles for a while and have been 50-50 in my attempts.
I guess my trick is to always get more than one lol.
I had flashers in my last 180 and they did well for over 1 year.

I have had a trio of these magnificently colored fish and can't think of any other fish I love more! I have had them about 6 months now, bought them same day from my LFS as they knew I had been looking for some for a year and a half. They have been easy feeders, friendly, and out and about most of the day. I have them in my 180 gallon reef, and they don't seem to mind the light, but they have their cave if they so desire.

Recently I have noticed some behavior that I think is "courting", and I am very pleased that they are possibly spawning! I don't think I am exactly set up for the fry, but hopefully some of them will survive.

I have not found them any more difficult to keep than an anthias, however they can, will, and have jumped. I have a VERY tight 1/4 inch mesh lid, and fortunately when they have jumped out, it's only when I move the top screen to feed, and I have scooped them off the carpet and put them back in. I have even had to devise a clever way to prevent them from jumping into the overflows and up on top of the center partition/brace between there and the mesh top.

So, far so good, they were hell-bent on jumping out, but I am even more hell-bent on them NOT jumping out! I win so far.... lol! If you are considering this fish, I am sure it will quickly become one of you all time favorites, but make sure there are no holes for them to escape through. As far as the spawning, I will keep you posted. Say a prayer!
