I am looking for a female bellus angel. I was told by my LFS that they do not usually live. Can anyone give me some information about them, experiences, and some pictures.

Thanks

Mine has been great. No issue acclimating, was right at home first day, eats well, gets along fine with tank mates. No nipping on any corals either. As easy as any fish I've had.

Wow!!! She is so pretty. Where did you get her? I cannot find one locally so I will most likely have to mail order, or buy one from someone on Reefcentral. Any advice on where to get one?

Actually got her at the LFS. It's the only one they have ever had. They are hard to come by.

You can get them at the marine center, and atlantis aquarium and reef science both have gotten them in before.

If i was going to suggest where to get it, I'd say Marine Center, even though you'll pay a lot more, its guaranteed for a certain number of days, and they say they keep them until they are eating right, etc. THe reason Bellus' are hard to keep is because they are from deep water, and therefore have the risk of not being acclimated properly from those higher pressure areas.

where did you get her from? is there a possibility that there could be another one there? how much did she cost if you don't mind me asking?

I got her from a LFS here in Montreal, Canada, and paid around $80 Cdn.

I'm quite sure you can locate a healthy one in your neck of the woods however....

wow. thats awesome. i have asked all of my lfs and they said they wont even order one because of the reputation of dieing they have.

i dont like the male anyways, i dont think they are pretty. Would you possibly want to ship me one that is eating when they get one in?

Unfortunately, since I'm in Canada, that would be next to impossible.
However, if you check out some quality online marine establishments such as liveaquaria.com or themarinecenter.com, I'm sure they could help you out...

thats what i thought, but marinecenter said it would be an extremely long time before i got one and it would be quite expensive. i hvae never seen one on liveaquaria before.

I had no idea how lucky I was to get mine. To think I was hesitant on whether to get it or not!

So nobody with just a female Bellus has seen them turning into a male?

I'm a bit confused over whether that can or does happen.....haven't seen anyone report it.

Regarding how often these are seen, I live in the Washington DC area and I've seen two females and one male of them in two different shops the last 6 months. The last one was last week - the store has an e-mail list of new arrivals Thu. night and it had already been reserved when I was there on Friday.
