Like the title say anyone here run carbon 24/7? If you do how often do you replace it? Also I've read somewhere that you can run phosban and carbon in the same reactor?
I run carbon 24/7 through a phosoban reactor and change the carbon once a month. Yes, you can mix a phospate remover with carbon, but phospate removers should only be used as needed, perhaps for a week or two.
I run a mixture of the both, it's been running for about a month and I will be changing the media this weekend. I run alot of both phosphate removers and carbon, I have some phosban and carbon in a reactor, and I also have phosguard and carbon in media bags in the water flow, been fighting Cyano (and winning BTW).
I run both 24/7 on my 400G tank. I have a fluval canister filter hooked up to the sump. I use the Dr. Foster & Smith filter pads that have both carbon and phosphate remover in them in my filter baskets. I just cut them up to fit in the 3 baskets. I change them out about every 2 months or when I can remember.
I run carbon 24/7 in a Phoban reactor. I also run PhosAR in a separate reactor run on the same pump. The output is then run through poly filter. I do not mix the PhosAR and carbon because in my tank, the Phosar is only changed when the phospate reading out of the reactor is = to the incoming water. That is when I know it is exhausted. I try to change carbon every two weeks.
