Who is Jason Fox?

It doesn't really look that much different from some others for alot less money.....I am from the school most people that come over and look at your tank wouldn't know it was a 999/eye coral and if they did they would KNOW that you were crazy!!

As far as I can tell, it seems to be because they say it is. There are some amazing chalices out there that, IMO, look a lot better than that one. Its ALL subjective, though. :)

I've been in WWC store a few times in the past few months. I actually seen that wrasse that Zef posted. It was burried under the sand and the guy that works there "Ace" dug him up. At first he thought he was a jumper and was missing,

They had this tang in the back in a tank and Ace told me it was a "Pure White" tang and it was the only one in existance (I thought BS, even though it was pure white and i've never seen one) and he said they would not sell it and if they did it would be at least $25,000. Here is the kicker. When I was there last time I asked him where the "White Tang" was? He said it Turned yellow  I laughed my a** off. But then I though, what if some sucker would have bought that.

Moral of the story is I think WWC tries to hype up a lot of stuff and call it designer. I will admit though, there 300 gal main display tank is the nicest tank I have ever seen.

how about this one... at least $23,000

OK - I've got a stupid "newbie" question. What about the Chalices makes them so expensive (overall - not just this specific one)? Is this a newer coral available to aquarists or difficult to collect or a slow grower or just the current fad or what? Is the Chalice coral the "holy grail" of LPSs (forgive the pun)?

All the above. But more of fad and some are really a slow grower. My pink boobie chalice I just sold took almost 6months to grow an extra eye.

I've just got to get one of those Pink Boobie chalices just so I can say "Want to see my pink boobies?". LOL

Lucky for all of you, I probably don't have the lighting required for a chalice. :)

If someone has that kind of money and they want to spend it on a coral, more power to them. If someone wants to charge that kind of money for a coral and they GET someone to buy it? Even better for them.

It's stupid pricing and I wouldn't pay it now, but if I was a multi-millionaire and liked the way it looked and wanted it bad enough, then I wouldn't care at all.

looks identical to a frag I got in a package from pacific east... lime rim, blue body and orange eyes under 20k lighting

I met Jason at MACNA and spoke to him for a little while when I was at WWC. He's a pretty nice guy not sure if he's working for WWC or not but he has to be tight with them. They had a tank set up in the corner of the room with mostly all of his corals. I bought once SPS coral from him and some of the Bloodshot Zoas. To the best of memory he lives in Maryland though.

Not sure who told you that, but the White Tang is still white. And to this date is still the only one ever seen in this hobby. Thanks.

ACE would be the one. Show us some pics if you have them. I was there and did not see it when I was there in Dec. My GF was there also and can testify to him saying that, as I wanted her to see it. I saw it in November.

Hey did you end up gettin that black tang pair up with the white tang.

That tank is really blue. I got the impression, when I was there in Nov., that they only run actinics during the store hours. You walk in and you are bombarded with "great awesome colors." When in fact people that really run 10K's or even 14K's would be ****ed once they get the piece home.
I say, if you have the money and like it, buy the stupid coral. If you don't have the money, or don't like it, don't buy it. Its their coral, they can set the price at whatever they want. Too many people get into this hobby for the money side of it. Correct me if I am wrong, but the guys from WWC were hobbyist, then started a shop. Thats the American way. Find something you like doing and you will never work another day in your life.
There is nothing in the world that says you cant slap your name on a coral, market it, create a buzz, and charge outrageous amounts of money for it.
Again, my useless .02 cents. (and no, I have never bought anything from WWC, 1. I was on vacation and didnt want to travel with livegoods, plus I couldnt afford it. 2. I have NPS stuff not what they sale. )

I remember hearing j. Fox was part owner of WWC
Does anyone know if that's so?

Jason Fox is NOT owner or part owner of WWC. He is an avid collector of corals and we have many pieces from his collection.

We run actinic as well as daylight here in the store. Anyone is welcome to come by in the early afternoon when the daylights are on so they can see for themselves.
