Who uses ozone?

would you need the 200 mg unit on a 500 gallon reef with a 300 gallon sump. some have sugested two or threee of the 200mg units.

Try one 200 unit first and then get another if you think you need it. Idl bet you'll get clear water with one 200 unit.

Chicago,

I use a 500 mg/hr unit on both my 225 FO with about 60g of water in the sump.

And I use a 500 mg/hr unit on my 1400g SPS system.

Both system are used without controllers, and the ozonizer runs full blast all the time.

o2manyfish. what brand is the 500mg. also i have system where the tank is on the first floor and the sum is in the basement. as i have never in 20 plus years thought of using a oz unit have no idea on what are the options on running it. thus the question do these units hook up to an air stone and instead of o2 you get o3 and can i place it in the drains tubes which suck a lot of water in to the basement sump. another opiton i can have is that there is asettling threee compartment above the sump that i could place it in. see pic attached maybe you have some ideas on tha t

thanks

here is a better pic ofthe sump . the drains run into the acrylic compartments two of them on the top right and then settle and then water flow into the sump via the three pvc pipe, note this pic does not show the drains which wre later installed .

thanks for your input

Without reading every thread I am going to ask anyways. What model would you recommend for a 75g display with a 30g fuge and 30g sump? I was going to run it non stop through my skimmer. I am trying to avoid having to purchase a controller. What is the best route for me to take without spending over $125 or is there a way to do that? Excuse my ignorance but I am new to the entire ozone topic. Thanks Danny

Chicago,

The ideal location is the skimmer intake.

But you can hook it up with an air pump and an airstone and add it to your settling tank as well.

Dave

I run an ETSS Skimmer and do not have a place to attach the tubing to the air intake of the skimmer. I added a venturi vaulve in the middle of the fleible tubing of one of the pumps running the skimmer and hooked up the ozone until with an air pump and run the tubing from the air pump to the venturi air intake. Long way to get to the question.

Do I need the air pump or is the venturi sufficient? Will the venturi negatively effect the opteration of the skimmer? Thanks.

Howard

If you have a long draw of tubing, an airpump can always help, also depends on the design of the ozonizer.

Most ozonizers were designed years ago, and are a bit restrictive in the flow of air through them. Not with the bigger skimmers, and the down draft design so much more air is "consumed" by the skimmers, that the ozonizer attached to the venturi intake can create a restriction and reduce the performance of the skimmer.

I have been using O3 for about 3 months now w/ redsea unit 100mg/hr but only being dosed about 5-15% continually w/o controller and in the last week Ive had 2 JG fittings literally fall apart. The first one is the JG fitting on my EV-180 skimmer which it was designed for and in only 3 months has broken. The next day a different JG fitting between output and skimmer inlet on the line fell apart. I am running a bag of carbon under the skimmer outlet in the sump so Im not sure why this had such a quick effect on the plastics. Kind of p-off about the JG on the skimmer since it was advertised as for ozone and now w/ 3months use has broken. Im still waiting to hear back from AquaC. Anyone else had any plastics basically fall apart??

o2 many fish.l do you meant the water intake or the air intake to the skimmer on a beckect type skimmer. i assume that if i attaached it to the intoake onthe becket that it would reduce the effeiciancy of the skimmmer. right?

so put it by the intake of the pump?

The efficiency is the same. Run the ozone to the air control valve of the beckett and it works great.

What is a JG fitting?

does oz effect any other parts of a skimmer such as a becket or the pvc that houses it or the clear acrylic tubing ect.

thanks
