Ted,
I did have a few small hermits and snails, but it seems as though the blue leg hermits (somehow the one I had has multiplied) have won the shell wars.
I have had some peppermint shrimp (sourced via my stone crab traps) from time to time. But they had to battle the fish and my CBS to survive. The CBS is now gone, so I hope to have better luck with the peppermints this next year.
I have dropped a tiny pistol shrimp or two in also, but not sure if they became food before finding a hole. They were so small, not sure if you would hear their claw snaps if they were alive.
At the last meeting at Steve's house in Tarpon, I brought a couple of the Gulf variety of Arrow Crabs to share - have not heard if they have survived or not. These too are sourced via my stone crab traps. I had not previously tried these in my tank because of the CBS, but will this fall/winter.
And finally I had a small one of our local brown starfish in the tank for almost two years. I say "had" because I have not seen him in awhile (not totally unusal though, would often go a month without seeing him and then he would appear).
We have lots of urchins (purple and longspine), the occassional seahorse, snails, crabs, etc. out here in the bay.
