who will get the centropyge narcosis...

that would be amazing...maybe they are close to perfecting collection at that depth with a sub and are going to collect them in serious numbers? They are not rare fish just so hard to collect due to the depth...
having said that...for that money, I personally would get an Interruptus...much prettier imo...
Reefjunkie, please keep us updated!!

It is not an attractive fish IMO. There are many more much nicer fish I would rather have for much less money.

just my thought...
I love the yellow/blue contast on a Lemonpeel....I do not own one...
If the Narcosis were not so rare in the trade, I doubt there would be such wonderment around it...lots of yellow fish around...
Imo, it is a holy grail fish based on its rarity within the trade.

Here is a nice lil yellow fish just caught by Walt Smith...
Is it an abborant color morph Heraldi?

Walt and others believe it to possible be a new species and are going to check dna...

...

This was $700 and is very similar to the Kevin tossed on dd 2 weeks ago which is still there for $800...imo, not sure the Narcosis is that much more beautiful...but the Narc has the name and legendary story behind it....
thoughts on this guy?

yeah man...pia has a tiny 1.50 incher right now with a double spot...just beautiful looking..check her out...she was still there this am...

News like this is usually anounced on other blogs....i.e. ************

Actually, this news went public on QM's Facebook page before any blog... anyone who "likes" their page could have found out...

The one in Japan sold for $20g's. I wonder how much it'll go for here. I heard that the Narcosis wasn't even the main target; that they were actually going for the Peppermint angels...which they might have successfully caught too...

Wayne, through my friendships and travels in Japan I've found that it is a pretty common practice for the published selling price of a fish there not to be actually what it is... the inflated prices benefit everyone from the collector to the purchaser (in terms of their ego)... don't always believe what you hear... the market in Japan has taken a hit like everywhere else in the world... between the economy and the tsunami...

I heard it may end up at hof...then to the guy that bought the juvi Personatus this past fall...hope so, I wanna see it...lol..

As much as I like Rob (we've had many a drink together, and I told him about that personatus before he bought it... it was nearly on a plane to Japan!), this fish should end up in a more specialized setup.

It's doing really well. I've actually been hoping that another one would pop up in the states to complete my pair. I've also been contemplating about slowly trying to acclimate it to a higher temp, but I didn't want to press my luck.

I've been meaning to take picture of my tank. It's been awhile, but I'll post them here when I do.

Don't put her in higher temps Wayne! I have owned both wild and captive interrupta, and warm is a no no! What temp is she at now? I have my little girl in the low 70s... our shipment from Japan had three interrupta... you took two and I took the third.

On a related note my first trip with my new underwater camera rig (yes, another inexpensive hobby:fun4:) is to dive this winter in southern Japan with Koji for a few days... hoping to see interrupta in the wild for the first time... water temp will be 20 Celcius... air temp 10 Celcius... I'm going to be kicking it like those Japanese baboons in the hot springs...

Glad to hear..was so tempted to snag that pair...have you spoken to Ching? He seems to be able to obtain anything...
Best of luck and look forward to picks....

Money talks with these... it's no secret where they come from. Last season was the first good one in years for juvie interrupta... people here in the US complained for years about wanting juvie interrupta, and Kevin Kohen at LA brought some in finally... and they sat in the DD for a long time before Wayne bought them. One could say "well they are too expensive!", which would be a fine comment... the issue though is that the highest demand for these is in Japan... and they're collected in Japan... it takes some enticing for people to ship these out of Japan when there is a prepaid waiting list there on these fish... while these juvies are rare, they are not personatus rare...

i spoke to a buddy from QM...retailed for 2500...which frankly blew my mind. i feel it was worth much more..

One correction... QM is a WHOLESALE company...

Ahh... sadly... no.:sad1:

I tend to agree...they are nice looking fish but I think even a Lemonpeel is prettier...

This comes up so often any fish of this value is talked about I addressed it in my signature... all of us here could name at least fifty fish that are cheaper and prettier... but let's not... and keep this on topic.

Copps...so glad you showed...always appreciate your expertise...
Had my fuge (100+gallons) been set up and ready to go, I would have snagged those Interruptus...
Anything new going on you can share?

Hey John, I keep my tank around 73 degrees. The only reason I was thinking about acclimating it to a higher temp is because I read somewhere that Frank over at RCT had successfully acclimated his breeding pair to warmer temperatures as well as the offspring. I've also kept my previous RCT Interrupta at 78-79 degrees in my old setup for over a year before without any problems.

I know the Interrupta I have now is wild caught, but I thought that even if the higher temperatures increases it's metabolism, I feed my tank pretty often - at least 3-4 times daily. Anyway, it was just a thought and the summer is almost over now so maybe I'll delay the acclimation till next summer.

I think a narcosis is a safer fish to put your money in than a peppermint angel
But i like a personatus more
John what is your opinion do you think a narcosis will be fine in a cooler water community tank

Both the narcossis and peppermint Angels are quite rare even at depth. One cannot make the assumption that they are common just by watching a five minute video clip. Believe it or not, these fish are only in very select habitats. And since the twilight zone is so unexplored, it takes a lot of searching before you can find exactly where they live.
