I am giving him away next month to my lfs and he is going in their 5000 gallon display tank. He is getting too big for the 180. :(

Sorry for the side track. Back to FTS's

He's two big for a 180 --what would be the minimum size tank for a beauty like this

Funny, dogstar.

I am not sure capn. I figure 5000 gallons will make him very happy :)

I just scouting whether a 250 or 280gal will hold my regal , sailfin and yellow tangs
5000 gal is probably a couple of upgrades later:lol:

$3800 nz all set-up

thats $3040 US

If you bought a tank that size here with lighting, sump proteins skimmer, cabinet etc then you are probably looking at that price
With all the corals in their etc--forgive me for asking but do you get corals very cheap down under because of the proximity to the greatest reef in the world??

I was hoping so. I like this thread a whole lot. Inspiring.
The pink coral was my ver first live stock purchase (besides the LR). I like it, but I think it is getting to be too big and pieces are detatching themselvs. LFS says it happens. I was worried about it. Now my hitchhiker urchin picks up all the pieces and wear them as clothes. Weird.

I bought the Sailfin at LFS, and they wouldn't give it to me since a lot of the fish had ich. It infected their whole system. Well, once it appeared to be taken care of I came back and got him. I quarentined him for about 3 days and he was doing well, then next morning on the 4th day he was in fishy heaven.

I took the fish back to the LFS and they said: "Well we have had him for several months, how come he is dead"? I said "Don't know, here is a water sample." My water was perfect. They couldn't understand, so they finally gave in to the fact that the fish had been ill in their system for too long. So he gave me a credit for another sailfin when they got another......and it just so happens that they recived a Red Sea Sailfin. It is so much better looking. I put him in the tank after a couple days of quarentine and he went bananas with my Tenetti. They are best friends. And they all eat like maniacs when it feeding time.

I am probably done with tangs though since another would over crowd my tank. I reall really really want a regal or Red Sea Purple. BUT I suppose I am going to grab some small shoaling fish like Anthias and Chromis.

That's amazing to hear that a store would give you a credit on a fish--none around here will do that.
As you are probably aware you probably will get about a year with that sailfin in your size of tank and then have to find it another home.
Regals and purples are too big also
---but a tomini or yellow would do fine in there.

here is a link to some other amazing sites from tangs to tank builds

wow you have alot of sps's doing well in there.
I can't help but notice only one power head---how much flow do you have in your tank.
Your corals are doing so well, I hate to bring up the fact of the visible algae in the tank, which indicates high levels of phosphates--and sps corals don't "normally" do well with higher levels of phosphates---again please don't feel this is critical because your corals appear to be doing well:smokin:
