Who's Getting the Cook Island Variant Helfrichi?

I was all logged in ready to click on it and the burgessi X Tinker variant but once I saw the price tag on the cook Island Helfrichi, I backed out. I want some other cool stuff for that price!

Who ever does get it, please keep us updated on how it does and if its colors change/adjust.

it is a good looking fish
i have seen it on a exporters list thy are more than 4 times the price of the a regular Helfrichi

what is exatly the difference bwteen this fish and XL Marshall islands specimen?
I emphasis on the XL , I know that sometimes you have to wait for them from marshall, but hey, thats about 15% of the price.

I am very tempted. I have wanted one of these fish, but unfortunately there are a few other fish that I am in the process of procuring.

Steve- Get it............ but for goodness sake pick up the camera and take some shots of it ;)

Kevin Kohen did a very nice write up on one of the late 2009 issues of Reef Life Magazine, if you have access to it. It was the one with the Scoly on the cover, I think.

I would bet a side by side comparison of this morph to the "normal Helfrichi" would not make this fish any more attractive than the normal Helfrichi. Just my opinion, from a reefer w/ mordid experiences w/ firefish. However, I'd buy buy it in second, if I had the cash---very cool fish.

Well you are wrong.

The cook one has much more purple, more purple less yellow on the head, and is overall more vivid. Plus the size difference. The regular one is 1 3/4" the cook one is 3 1/4", much larger.

I'm not trying to start a debate about this fish, but I pulled up a picture of a regular old purple firefish and this fish side by side. I asked a couple non-reefers which one out of the two they would get for $900 and they all said they would get the purple firefish.

I'm not saying that this helfrichi isn't awesome, because it is.

But it's "rare"!

If I spent $900 bucks on a fish....... Can you spell D-I-V-O-R-C-E??

That's because a healthy, well marked purple firefish DOES look better then the helfrichi, both the cooks island and the "regular" version :eek2:

I had this issue in my hands late January and forgot it in LA!!
Aussie Scoly on the cover...

Can you share some highlights please?

I am going to have to agree with myzislow the Marshall Island variant looks better IMO. Additionally, I may go as far in saying the purple fire fish looks better then both.

IMO the face on the Cook Island fish is just amazing! If you've ever seen this fish up close you can see why it demands such a high price. It's very uncomon to see for sale and it's a great looking animal; which will add up to a high price tag. Best of luck to who gets to own this amazing animal. I prefer tilefish but they are much harder to care for.
