Who's running under T5s?

Who's running under T5s? I keep reading how T5s are too bright for corallimorpharians. But then I see in a few people's pst, it looks like thats just what they have.

Wanted to get an opion on the folks running T5s. How many bulbs? tank depths? etc?

Is it just a matter of proper light acclimation?

Thanks

Dallas

I'm running 6x54W over both of my 24" tall 120G tanks. I've lost a couple rics because of the light intensity, but other than that, the shrooms seem to acclimate fine.

I am running 4x54W on my .. are 55g 21" high? I just put a yuma in there at the bottom and it seemst o be okay

t5 and a tank full of mushrooms here! I have 4 different yumas and 3 different rhodactis and I have to take frgs to the LFS ever month. Musshies are fine under T5 just acclimate them on the bottom and slowly move them up to where you want them to end up. Most of mine stay on the bottom because I keep SPS on the top.

My mushrooms seem overwhelmed by my T5s. However, the shrooms that are shaded by other corals or the liverock have a lot more expansion and seem to have better as color as well. I think it has a lot to do with the spectrum of your bulbs. I have two 6500 kelvin bulbs which put out more PAR than say a aquablue plus. I also have individual reflectors too which puts out 300 more percent light than without. Do you guys have ind. reflectors as well?

Thanks,

Yes, I was thinking the color temperture has alot to do with it.

JBitter.. What color bulbs are you using?

Can I use 11Ks and Blue+ and still get an ice white? or will it look blue?

yes. without the individuals you are pretty much running power compacts.in other words without individual reflectors you might as well save your money and run pc's

Correct.

I disagree on the t5 w/o IR being the same as PC. I have read places the claim a 300% increase in bulb out put w/ IR (I do use SLR refectors). But the main problem with PC is the amount of light loss due to reflection into the bulb. So I would rate them t5w/IR>t5w/oIR>PC, with PC being by far the inferior. I run all Giesmann bulbs (1 6k Midday, 2 Actinic+, and 1 super Actinic), and yes my tank is very blue.

if your talking about my reply i had said that they were pretty much like running pc's when you run them with a single reflector. theres a big difference in t5's with individual reflectors and pc's but theres not much of a difference between t5's with one reflector and pc's . my first t5 setup had a single reflector and to me didnt look any different then when i had pc's and when i bought individuals it was a huge difference. like night and day.

T5s are still a bit more efficien without reflectors than PCs anyways. They run cooler, consume less electricity and still put out a bit more PAR as well. PCs put out like 3 inches of PAR becaues they got that double strip connected thing and with that design they lose a lot of light. T5s only have one strip and don't lose as much.

Who cares anyways, were getting off topic.

so do normal outputs but there not as good as pc. sorry had to say that lol. but yea i understand what you mean. i guess it would be better to say that your wasting your money by not using individual reflectors :) makes it less of a debate that way.

actually i havnt tested to many different reflectors out for t5's. i wonder if theres an article somehwere that can tell us what reflectors are the best. ive tried to find one but couldnt.

Icecap reflectors seem to be the cream of the crop. SLS (at least mine) stain from the salt water and cannot be cleaned off.

I am getting some Ricordia's this Saturday. So do you think they will do fine under my T5s? I got two pure actinic, one 6500K and one 10000K. All with individual reflectors.

ricordias do fine under just pc so yea your good. they dont like to much light anyways. with your light combo im sure you could keep about anything .
