Why are brs overflow box's so expensive?!

I am looking to drill my tank and install a sump and I need an Overflow. I searched on reef supply and found one from $36 - $80. I also found one much bigger on ebay that looks like it would do the trick just as well for half that price. Call me cheap because this is an expensive hobby, but why would I need to spend $80 on a plastic holo box with a few holes in it. What is the difference between this cheap overflow box on ebay and this seemingly over priced over flow box on BRS. This doesn't make sense!

I'd guess that the ebay one is actually made by the seller..
The one sold at BRS is a CPR overflow box..
So you have a middle man there too that needs to make money..

That and I believe the CPR overflow has been around a while (before there was much competition..)

I have the 16" model on my tank and it has been running flawlessly so far.

awesome. How hard is it to get the weir out i know it looks like it slides in a grove...

Fro me it does not matter as i built mine...... just seen some videos and post on them..

But thank you..

It comes off pretty easily. It clips on by using magnets on each side of the connection points.

I a club member used one on his tank it was really nice. I liked the magnetic connection of the weir and it was really quite.

Sorry did not mean to push your thread so far off topic.. But i think its been answered a few times..

You can also check out Elite Aquatics. They make an overflow box very similar to Synergy Reef but more economical. Also Modular Marine make overflows but their weirs are not removable like the SR and EA's are. They also make just the internal overflow box in case you want to go that route.

Yea i have seen them.

Sorry i was not looking for one i just seen someone having trouble with the one i was commenting on and was Curious..

The problem with this type of overflow is that it is rather noisy. You would be better to get a overflow setup to use a durso system that is quite.

This one is quite and comes as a complete system with overflow and drain box on the back. You will be very happy having a quite drain.

Quiet.

I'm sorry, but I had to.

Sorry for the spell check issue I am sure you have never had that happen[emoji23]

A lot of the price difference is a well-known company vs someone on Ebay who makes their own. Also, you have to look at the material they use. I have never used one of the cheap Ebay ones so I can't comment. I have a tank with a Durso and it's pretty darn silent. I also have another tank with ModularMarine 1200gph and it's similar to the Synergy Reef ones and works very well. I'd be more interested in the new Shadow Overflows that Synergy Reef is selling now.

This is the ModularMarine one I have: http://modularmarine.com/collection...box-bulkhead-mounted-aquarium-surface-skimmer

One thing you don't want is a noisy overflow. :fun5:

That's expensive? Look at the Synergy reef overflow box, I went with them due to terrible customer service from Modular.

External box is the way to go!
