Why are fish so fat at RainForest Cafe?

Im sure its not dinner scraps but visiting serveral RainForest Cafes in the Southern CA area I noticed most of the fish are just fat and plump. The Blue Tang looks like a Hippotomus Tang as well as most of the fish. I was wondering what they feed the fish to make them so plump. Was wondering if I could give that same diet to some new fish I get to fatten them up a little before they go on their normal diet.

To fatten new carnivores, try Formula VHP. (Very High Protein) I have a hard time finding it in LFS, though.

I have always heard that Rainforest Cafe tries to keep their tanks very healthy. It's a nice switch compared to the Fish Tank of Horrors at every Rubio's.

That is sooooo true! The one by me has a 12" sailfin in a 90 gallon tank!!!!! He has to desail just to turn around!

feeding 3 - 4 times a day and allowing all tangs to have constant seaweed has caused all the fish in my 100g FOWLR to just explode. THe valmingi tang has grown a few inches in the past couple of months. My damsels that i have purchased from petown are just MASSIVE. I had to pull 2 seargeant majors out of the tank and give them to the LFS because they were 3-4" !

I feed mine 3 times a week a mixture of different pellets and feed a sheet of nori every day. Mine are FAT. I think my Vlamingi is about 3 inches thick and is all meat, not fat. He's also 13" long as well. A good amount of swimming room with a good quality food should do the trick. Otherwise they become fat and lazy, not muscular. ;)

whomever takes care of the fish tanks for rubios in my area should have been beaten down with a dead fish that he killed. i love there food and such and always nice to see a public tank and such. I have even tried talking to the manger about there tanks at two locations but the dumb asses can not give me nutritional info. which for some reason i thought i was like a law nowadays. due to this fact and me recently being diagnosised as a diabettic, carbs and sugars are very important to watch. :(

i agree with you.. it is now on my boycott list. maybee it is me and my stuborn ways but "if one can not provide simple service like providing nutritional info as a fast food type chian. hmm maybee we should report them to PETA or something

The Rubios in Rancho Cucamonga used to have a fish tank when they first opened but not anymore. Dont know what happened to it. The only time I eat at Rubios is when they have the $1 fish taco special. Not bad for a buck

Well at least we know where the fish went:eek:

rainforest cafe is owned and operated by landry restaurants. they also own the awesome downtown aquarium in houston, texas. it helps that they have a fully staffed biology department that studies and cares for their tank inhabitants.
