I see one of my clams in my 450gal on its way out and now scared of the others in the tank. Maybe the light? Maybe the copperband i got nipping at its mantle? Maybe not getting food????

@ Cully... Hey, you never know.

@ Jarrett.. you have listed too many possibilities of the reason why it may be on it's way out. Clams love light... they need zooplankton in order to feed from the water, and your cooperband is not helping any. Hope it's not the turquoise clam that was in your pics.

@ OzoneParkGuy I was going to get a copperband And I have Zoas and SPS I dont want it to eat them. I dont want to get it if it will eat my Coral or clam. What does it eat ?

Yes I saw that post a little while ago... not hijacking your thread Jarrett.
They will forage around the LR for food and eat fan worms, rock anemone, some frozen foods (mysis, bloodworms) if they CAN COMPETE with the other fishes. If NOT, at times they are known to nip at clams, because they are hungry. So it's a hit or miss...

i always wondered the same thing.. i have had a few clams die on me as well. all the ones that have died where small ones.. the current 3 that i have are my original 3 that i got when i first set up tank.

Wow yeah I think your coming off like an A****hole, LOL
What else did i have die on me???? I know Everyone loses a coral once in a while for some stupid reason but in fact I lost nothing in my 450gal.I did post about gsp closing but I have pics of that gsp spawning thats why it was closed up and is cool to see these pics.First your elegance died because I did not have enough lighting that i did not know at the time but 2 weeks after he died I upgraded to 1800w of lighting and now everthing is doing great. I also have another elegance doing great and might get another so take that.....LOL :hammer::lolspin::wildone::hmm6::fun2:

As far as the clam goes today he is doing great. I think he just was stressed out and I jumped the gun becasue he fell to his side and the copperband kept picking at the bottom mantle. I think i might have to get ride of the copperband or move the clams to the office.

So back to the topic I posted I see alot of people lose clams and never know why so what cause clams to Die???

copperbands are hit or miss with clams and softies...I had one and it was fine with clams and corals. I've heard of them nipping...I got mine to take care of a milllion of those lil featherdusters...which it did....back on topic...some clams are very sensitive to any changes in water quality or lighting...also check at night for pyramids.
