Why do clown fish stripes changing colors?

I have a gold-bar maroon clown fish in my tank that is over 11 years old. Initially his/her stripes were near white with just a hint of yellow. But over the year the stripes have darkened, so that now the stripes are very dark. Almost the same as the body color. Anyone know what causes this? Anyone else seen this?

Age; Gold stripe maroons tend to lose their stripes as they get older.
