55semi,
Reefgirlsara (who is from Florida) has a GBT for her occellaris. She used to have a sebae for a different clownfish that she had.
I (sarahkucera, a totally different sarah from Chicago) have an H Crispa for my true percs. H Crispa is a natural host for true percs. :)

I know Percs host H. Crispa. :)

I wasn't saying that Ocellaris won't host anemones that they don't naturally host, I was implying that if you provide them with their host specific anemone there is usually no issues.

So what is the Ocellaris' natural host specific anemone? I was told by my LFS it would be a BTA, or a carpet anemone. I liked the look of the GBTA better at the time, so that's what I bought. Should I switch it out for something different?

Also- as an unrelated side note, the anemone I used to have with my other clowns came with the tank when I bought it used, so I was never sure what kind it was. It was beautiful! It was a very pretty purple-pink color with pretty green tips. I can't remember what color the base was, maybe like a fleshy light brown color. People told me they thought it was a sebea, so that's what I thought it was.

I've always been curious, because I'd love to have another one, so if anyone has a guess I'd like to hear it. Maybe I can figure out how to post a picture of it from when I first got the tank.

very nice anenmone.. i say if your clowns are hosting that anemone.. why change there home? if both parties are happy.. then so be it..

No, that's my old anemone and my old clowns :(
I was very happy with them, but the anemone got bleached and the clowns died from ich. I'm trying to find out what type of anemone it was, so I can maybe buy another one.

Unfortunately Ocellaris clowns natural host are anemones that are rare and very hard to keep. I wouldn't even bother with it.

Stick with what you got. Given time your Occs will most likely eventually host. Your lfs informed you wrong. Best thing is to almost never take the lfs' word.

I have three Ocellaris clowns and ever since the day I brought them home they have slept in the upper left corner near the returns. As long as they are comfortable and feel safe I am happy. if they cozy up to one of my anemones it will be a little bonus. I am just happy they are healthy and thriving. They have no idea how much they amuse me.

When the light goes out, they both go straight to the same front left corner at the very top of the tank, their fins even come out of the water. They swim sideways and upsidedown and stay right there in that corner all night. Is there something wrong with them?

It means you have tank-raised clowns. The surface-hugging you are describing is not found in wild caught fish. Many tank-raised fish are raised in tanks without any decorations (for cleanliness and maintenance purposes) and some tank-raised clowns huddle near the corners of the tanks at night for "safety". Otherwise there are no issues with the behavior.

I wish this software would allow you to delete messages if they were less than 5 minutes old...
