Why do they do that?

I have been noticing lately that my male H.Erecti has been lurking in the 'caves' of the liverock. He sure does come out real quick when its feeding time. At night he goes into the rockwork as well. Also my blue striped pipefish are doing the same. I can tell I have male & female pipefish as their respective anatomy appears different. They too are eating rather well. Then one of the female seahorses is being stand-offish. She is often seen riding on the glass hydrometer/thermometer that bobs around in the tank or is affixed to the cord from the heater. She is eating but does not congregate with the others. Do they excommunicate others from their groups? Its coloring appears the same as the other that was purchased @ the same time from the same source. Any thoughts on this ??

p.s. I wish there more books available on their behavior.

I have a male Erectus that parks in one spot all the time in a crevace between two large rocks also. I think he found a couple of amphipods in there sheltering from the light. He thinks he's found a goldmine of food snacks lol.
