Why does Clown Tang nip Torch coral?

Hi all,

My Clown Tang is about 8". He is now staying in a 240g tank with Purple, Blue, Yellow Tang and is the biggest one.

I feed him twice a day with pellets, nori, artemia. Every 3 days, I soak pellets with vitachem. He looks very fat. He is known as compatible reef fish but don't know why he nips my torch coral.

Anyone has the same problem?

I had a purple tang that was nipping at a frogspawn. My research on various boards showed that once this behavior starts it is irreparable.

Thanks guys. Just don't know why many sites told most of tang are reef safe.

My display tank has Clown, Purple, Yellow and Blue.

Sohal, Achilles start eating in quarantine tank.

Just pick up a Powder Blue, he is on tank transfer method.

What do you think about my fish list?

A lot of tangs for a 240, might want to upgrade lol or thin the stocking a bit. If it were me I would remove the clown and sohal, they turn evil when older. If you wanted another tang besides those to I would look at the bristle tooth tangs like the chevron

Tangs ARE mostly reef safe ..... Mostly. They're individuals, however, and sometimes develop unwanted behaviors. Putting an Achilles and powder blue, along with a clown, into a 240 seems ....... well, unwise.

You can't keep a sohal and clown in the same tank. No matter how big an aquarium you have.
