Why does gsp do this

Why does gsp hide for 3 out every 10 days? I have two colonies of neon gsp and both do it like clock work....

Not that any of you know what it's thinking....

I am told it is not actually gsp but in the same family.... Who knows...

Ive had a growing mat of Metallic GSP for 5 months now and I never see it hide during the day, only at night after lights go out does it hide.

Im seeing a bit of a bald spot on mine lately and I believe its due to slightly higher than normal nitrate rates. I have hard GSP is especially sensitive when it comes to nitrates.

We have what would be considered high nitrates (softy tank), and ours is growing like crazy. Now, when we lowered them suddenly, all corals in our tank almost died. If it's used to certain parameters, it'll be fine until they change quickly. Ours also only closes at night.

My Parameters have not changed in 6 months... They are open and full for about 7-10 days then close up for 3 or 4 days then do it all again.... It is strange...

Anything near them that could be bugging them? Aiptasia, LPS with stinger tentacles, coral warfare going on in the tank? You run carbon?

Alk or ph swings can do that to them. Are they growing and spreading like crazy? If not somethings wrong. Mine never do that and I have 3 different colonies in 3 different parts of my tank. Check param when they are closed and check your test kits exp date. Hope this helps

Parameters are stable.. and this coral grows fast...

My mag is probably the most stable parameter I have. It only dropped below 1400 once... It is usually at 1400-1440 (red sea test kit)

I was logging when it sloshed and opened and there is not an exact pattern but it does close for 2 or 3 days regularly.... Very strange...

green star polyps.
Kalk in your top off? ATO? Any link to when you hit the bottom of your top off container?

I stopped Kali a couple month ago...ph was way high.... Not it is 8.4 at night ang 8.5 during the day....I would like it a bit lower but not sure how...

My ato reservior never bottoms. Ro auto filled every day... When I was Kalinin I had a reactor....

My GSP does the same thing. I decided to frag it out and place it different places in the tank to see if all the frags react the same. so far the mother colony is the only one that does this bizzare thing.

I wonder... my gsp seems to grow out like icecream sticks....i noticed the one that shoots up the highest does not always have good polyp extension. I wonder if gsp will grow into light that is too high or because this sticks out so much (3 inches) from the main colony that it is unstable and the polyps dont like it...
