Why is a Choati wrasse an expert level fish?

a buddy of mine has had 2 with great success what he attributes to his success is that he threw them in directly to the display no quarantine i may have to try that my self so far i have tried 2 could not get them pass the quarantine period

I don't Qt it too after prazipro dip I throw them ( all sand sleeping wrasse ) in my sump with 4" fine sand Refugium with mangroves and macro algae still no luck with choati but leopard and tamarin do well.

It maybe the current batch
Just like the rhomboid and lineatus batch few months ago almost every single one have swim bladder disease . I loss all 5 of my rhomboid and 3 of my lineatus after 1.5 months all have swim bladder:(

Kevin told me that he has shipped out five recently of the batch the got about 3 weeks ago and all of them shipped fine with no DOA. He probably has a different source for fish out in Hawaii though if I had to take a wild guess knowing that LA wholesaler lost their whole batch.

Or it's a matter of what the wholesaler's are doing (or maybe not doing?). Not to imply anything intentional.

Mine came in today from pia. She was hoping around in the bag when I got her. Went straight to the sandbed but I did see her for couple hours after the light came on. I had one before from DD. Did very well for over a year until I did something stupid and killed it

Keep us updated. Did you put yours straight in the DT or did you use a QT? Good luck with yours. I also just placed an order from PIA and it should be here tomorrow!!! EEEEKkkkkkkkk!

Mine with straight to tank. I've never had much success with quarantining finicky fish like choati. I figured with pods in the tank, he'll have a better chance of survival

Fish arrived this morning a little before 10:30. The choati wrasse along with a chevron tang arrived in good condition. Nothing but wonderful things to say about Kevin at PIA. Packaging and shipping on PAR with Divers Den. So without further adieu, here's the choati temp acclimating:

Didn't want to stress him out with any lights so this is the best I could do. He dove under the sand after about 3 or 4 minutes.

So QT or not? What did you decide? I wish you the best of luck.

No QT for me. straight to the DT. I emailed several people who have kept them and they advised me to not QT. Reading the leopard fish primer I also noticed that a lot of people that did try and QT them had them perish so I took my chance and put it straight in the display tank. There should be ample pods in there. I did QT the chevron tang though. Keeping my fingers crossed. He seemed pretty lively and looked to have some meat on him from what I could tell. I'm cautiously optimistic. I kept the lights off all day and will turn them on tomorrow morning.

You are so lucky to have PIA to get fish from (Hint!!!! Please ship to CANADA!!!). I hope you're does well. Nice girth on it so it's a healthy one! Please post pics of it in the DT.

I have another one on order and I will QT it if it looks healthy enough. I'll document it here for you guys.

Beautiful wrasse, hope you post more pictures and note any observations or things you did that were successful in acclimating the CW into your system.
