Hi, my friend was breaking down his tank and was cool enough to give me his true perc. I dont understand why the clown is hosting in my torch and not my rbta. I have 2 really big roses, about 7-8" but he decides to chill near my torch haha. In my friends tank he had a rbta and the perc was hosting in there, so im confused. Any input or suggestions on how to get the perc to host in the rose would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

is your clown wild? Most of the clowns you get today are tank raised and they never seen an anemone before. That could be why. Get a wild caught or get a different clown like a maroon.

My tank-raised didn't host at all, until I put a wild-caught in the tank. Now they are both hosting the frogspawn.

I mean, he/she does swim back and forth to the nem but it looks like he chose the torch as his/her main home.

Kind of a bold statement. I'd say the verdict is still out on this one, although I tend to agree.
What appears interesting is that what might be instinctive is the memory of a smell -- even though they might never have smelled the smell before. Still, I don't think there is any doubt that CP clowns are more hesitant to host than wild ones. It seems to take them longer for some reason.

you could always try to lure it to the anemone with food
i did this in the past with a sebea
just get a turkey baster and some brine or mysis get the clown used to eating from it then staret putting the food in the anemone
took just a few days to get it to touch the anemone but once it did was like a warm blanket on a cold day

I do agree that its instintive but I gave up on tank raised. I would tell you that from all 4 tanks I have that my best bet was buying a wild one. Within a day he was already hosting in an anemone. In the other three tank all are tank raised and they don't even look at the anemone. Maybe some day they will host who knows.

Alot of people have a more environmentally sustainable attitude though. They'd prefer to buy tank bred that may not host an anemone instead of wild caught that will host an anemone.
I've had no problems would our tank raised hosting anemones. They won't even get out of them

Looks great. I have a question. Why do some rose anemone don't have a bubble tip. Are there different kinds of rose?
