Why use Tropic Marin salt?

It doesn't look as if TM Pro was tested. Do you know of any other salt studies where TM Pro was included?

Ralf - sorry.:o

I must have been asleep when I read your post.

TMPro has pretty much the same as far as I know, Its just TM with high calcium and magnesium

That may well be the case. I didn't just want to assume it is. I remember Oceanic and Kent were made in the same facility but had different formulations and QA procedures.

I think one of the presentations at MACNA will be on the results of a study using different salts and their affects on coral growth, algae, and overall tank health. It has been conducted by Eric Borneman, so it should be pretty interesting to see the results.

You guys really get high Mg readings for Pro Reef?

I've tested 3 buckets of TM ProReef at SG 1.025 and have been getting Mg readings of 1100 - 1150 ppm. I've always needed buffer up my water change with Mg supplement to bring the Mg reading in line.

Ca readings are ok at 420 to 440 ppm. Alk is 6 to 6.5 dkh but then again I'm using distilled water to mix the salt, so the low dkh is kinda expected.

Will distilled water affect the Mg reading too??
