Why yes, this is another 29g BC Build

Well I picked up 2 more frags today!

I can see why it's so easy to drop a ton of money on corals.

Also decided to move the goby out of QT and in to the DT. I know it hasn't been a full month, but so far he's been eating and active. He came from a reputable source (ORA) and never touched my LFS water. So I'm fairly confident he's disease free. If not, I'm more than willing to eat my words and dedicate time and money to a hospital tank. He's already found a cave he likes and is in love with the cleaner shrimp.

Plus I'm picking up 2 clowns tomorrow so I have to break down, clean, and set up the QT tonight.

On a side note, I now have 8 snails and they hardly ever come out during the day. Is this normal?

Completely normal. I have hundreds of baby snails, I hardly ever see them except when I get up for work at 3am, their all over the glass.

Also installed the AquaticLife 115 skimmer. Still trying to get the hang of it. How far down should I put it in chamber ? And I don't quite know what the knob does? I'm trying to prevent it from filling up with water, which is clear by the way.

I raise the skimmer so the top of the body is about 1mm over the water line at it's widest point, and I leave the air totally open and the water exit open as well.

The water exit is what the screw on top controls. I also leave mine wide open. The skimmer itself sits just above the water line as reefwreak suggested.

Well still trying to get the skimmer dialed in. Slightly annoying. Also my salinity has lowered a bit. How often should I do water changes to bring it back up? It's really not that out of whack, but I would prefer to make sure it stays where it's supposed to be.

Also, anyone know what this coral is? I forgot to ask at the LFS due to being annoyed at them selling off my clownfish I had put on hold.

Is your salinity dropping because you are skimming too wet, and throwing away too much water? If so, while dialing in the skimmer, just throw the water back in the tank if it's not to dark with waste.

Actually that's probably it. The water has been coming out clear, probably because I haven't figured the skimmer out yet. Thanks!!

Need a closer look at that coral but from the shot it loks like a ricordea or Yuma mushroom

And as normal agree with Reef that you are most likely taking down your salinity by dumping the salt water and topping off with RODI. Topping off is fine normally to counter evap but not what you take out with the skimmer cup.

If you are filling with clear liquid then you have it set to overly wet. Those with the skimmer can talk about the adjustments to make but typically it is to raise the skimmer slightly/reduce water height in the unit or turn down the air intake slightly.

All skimmer require a break in period though and typically we let them run wet for a while and just dump it back into the tank.

Alright sorry to keep asking a million questions, but my goby is missing one of his fins on top (very scientific, I know). I've attached a picture. It looks like maybe he scraped it against a rock, since he does live in a cave. But now he won't let the shrimp touch him and swims away whenever they come near. Just wondering what it might be, if I should worry or not.

God that is one ugly fish! Not sure why everyone thinks their cute? But anyways.....

You sure hes missing it? From the picture it just looks folded down. It might have been nipped at, or ripped on a rock, etc, and sore so he has it folded down.

lol. I like that fish!

If he was injured, he may shy away from everything else until it is healed. If it is truely missing, then it's gone and won't grow back, but it's okay as long as he's healthy otherwise and is kept well fed. I wonder if it was the shrimp, or fighting with the other inhabitants.

Haha he's not very photogenic. It actually is really hard to tell if it's missing or folded down. The only other inhabitants are the cucumber, who never leaves his rock, and the snails. He's eating, but not as pig like as before. I guess I just have to keep on him. Thanks guys!

Thank you, I really appreciate you helping me. I might try to catch him and put him in QT since I already have one up and running. Guess I'm buying another tank for the clownfish for later this week. That'll make 5 takes up and running total. I might have a problem.

I wouldn't worry about pulling him out since he is the only fish. Just monitor the situation and see if any issues start to appear on his back. I would only pull if you need to treat for some open wound or infection
