I have 2 maroon clowns and they have a carpet anemone they host. for the past 4 days they have been fanning ALL of the sand from around the anemone away from it. The sand bed is atleast 4 inches to 6 inches all around the tank. The 2 clowns have fanned all the sand away and they keep doing it.....I am wondering why they are doing this and is it normal for maroon clowns to fan sand all the time. I'm curious to know if they don't like where the anemones at or if this is a sign of they are going to spawn or whatever..Really curious!
Any answers would be greatly appreciated..

I included some pics of them and you can kind of see how much sand they are fanning..that pvc pipe with zoos on it was on top of the sand bed...Now its halfway buried..and they have about an inch of sand left around the anemone...the pics were taken with a cell phone so they arent great..

i had the same deal with my maroon clown but i didnt have an anemone, i think they are just trying to make the aquarium a little more cozy

My pair constantly clear all the sand out of one corner of there aquarium. It has nothing to do with the anemone. If I put anything in their corner, they move it away if at all possible.

Mine do this regularly. But they used to do it only a little bit. Recently theyve been doing it big time. To the point where I can see the glass bottom, about 3-4 inches down. Shortly after I noticed them doing this I saw there first batch of eggs.

Oh so this means they MAY spawn?? Thats cool. Is their anything I can do to help them alojng in spawning? Should I move them to a seperate tank with the anemone or just some sand ? I dont know what to do..
