i recently got a yellow tang from ABC Reef in Syracuse On The Road Trip With Mel And Kat. Its Doing AMAZING In My Tank, Anyways I Turned My Lights On This Morning And It Swam Out Of Its Little Cave And Began To Explore Then All Of A Sudden Stopped And Started Squirting Out White Stuff Like No Joke. Any Ideas???

oh, spyder...that doesn't sound good. do you have Nori? get some garlic extract from a LFS (Kent marine) soak the nori with that and get that into it's system. seriously..your tank didn't have time to cycle...if you need to get him into a safe environment, call me and let me put him in QT until your tank is ready. Hate to see you lose any more fish. Ok?

ill grab some tomorrow, i dont think i need to QT the fish is swimming like a champ and eating, just looked like he was trying to spawn with himself

Maybe there is something in your water out there....:love2:

Otherwise, I'm not sure. If he looks healthy (expanded fins, smooth movement, bright color) he should be fine.

Congrats on the fish!!

yea hes like super super yellow, no discoloration, swimming fine, spends alot of time in his cave tho, be does come out to swim and explore sometimes.

You added a yellow tang to a tank thats what? 3 days old....i foresee a problem in the near future, grab the nori and garlic, ich are tang magnets to begin with. Once ur tank hits the amonia phase.......

Sounds like parasites? You can buy medicated food pellets if you do not have Prazi and a QT.
I personally like to Qt all fish with copper and 2 rounds of prazi before going into my tank. Believe me after loosing a battle to Ich 3 times I would not chance it again.
If I did it would be a fish from a local member,Or my LFS (Arc) they are very good, and honest as far as telling you if the fish is healthy,How long it's been their ect...
I think Kat is a great resource for you,If you do not want to take her up on her offer
I would at least be testing everyday to make sure the tank is not going through a cycle
with the tang in it.(that would be sad).. Ive never myself heard of a new tank completing it's cycle in this short of time but I know theirs lots of ways to shorten the cycle time.
If you don't mind me asking how did you cycle the tank?
Anyhow good luck and feel free to ask lots of questions! This Hobby is a learning process!
( I know Im still learning myself) and your in great company!

thanks, ive been checking my water daily, doing the water changes as recommended and everything, even having my LFS double check my water for me to make sure i didnt mess up the readings or the test myself.

As far as kats offer i never said i wouldnt take her up on her offer i just wanna see how things go, if i see my tang become discolored or seems sick i will give her a shout for sure.

As for my method i used i think i will keep it to myself as i dont need mreye23 and jdoenumber2 on my case anymore than they already are.

No one is on your case. Just giving you advice. Your tank didnt cycle in 12 hours, also its never good to tell new people you can cycle a tank in 12 hours. Tangs are declaite fish which are not ment to be in a fresh tank. Even a tank that is cycled the right way, IMO is still not mature enough for a tang. There is also a difference between a mature tank and a cycled tank.

i simply stated what i did, thats all and i also stated not to try or attempt to do it.

Yes, and everyone simply stated the facts. Wasnt on ur case just letting you know ur tank will still cycle, theres no 12 hours cycle, if there was dont you think eveyone would be doing it?

Ahh ok should have asked first :) And (never) be afraid to post,Were all here to help each other and learn. BTW I don't recall you intro >Welcome to Upstate :)

patience is the key, here Spyder. You know i'm your friend, i will help you whenever i can..don't get discouraged or misconstrue the sincere efforts of the incredibly brilliant reefers on this site. there are no stores competing for your business here....just a bunch of us that have been through all of this countless times. we're here for ya.

Ok spyder although I don't believe the tanks ready for a tang yet thats besides the point, my opinion has nothing to do with your issue nor would it cause the issue your having so lets see if we can get to a solution. now you said lights were off did you feed the tank recently? sometimes my tang will pick some stuff off the bottom and get sand and spit it out is that possibly what happened. As far as not posting don't ever do that all of the people that really care about this hobby would prefer you ask questions we are after all here for the sme reason the love of fish right. There are just a few people here don't really know how to talk to people take them with a grain of salt be courteous o people, ask questions, and don't give advice unless your sure your right an you will love this place.

nobody asked this question where was he squirting the white stuff from? mouth or other end? where? what did it look like? is he mature or a juvi?
