Wierd Yellow Tang Experiance

IMO thats still to small, i think they need a 5 or 6 foot tank, for now the tank is big enough but it will out grow it fast. The thing with tangs is they consume alot of oxygen, you cant have a heavy bioload in a small tank like a 75 if you have a tang bc of this.

k thanks for the important info :-)

gives me a reason to upgrade when it gets larger :-)

A tang should not be in anything less then a 75, a 75 is still to small IMO,i think a tang needs a six foot tank to truly be happy!

not entirly true i will agree that 4' long is good 6'-8'much better but if its open space and the tang is small you can get away with as little 3' for a while. NOT TO SAY THAT IS IDEAL.. but a yellow is not the most active of surgeons and a far cry from the biggest at 7" max size. any one ever seen one that big in somones tank? I havent but i have seen plenty of healthy zebrasoma in tanks "QUOTE" too small.

totaly agree with this statement you mus always consider the effects of any fish on the capabilities of your bio filter and aany tangs weigh heavy as do anthias and all the predatory fishes.

i have a 90g...and Sally, my yellow is getting very big (ask Lizz, she said it was a pretty big tang)...so much so, that Sally will most likely wind up in the 120g when it is up and running. Yellows swim like crazy, not only that, but they like to swim FAST. She zooms. In out, in out, across, down....when she gets to the glass? i can almost hear her thinking..
"what? that's it?"

Oh boy TANG POLICE TANG POLICE hehe here's my take over the past 5 or so years of having tangs. a 75 is ok for a small one they don't grow extremely fast that being said feed feed feed I think the only issue you will have is that its a immature tank that doesn't have a ton of stuff for them to pick off the rocks feed that bad boy give him lots of mysis and nori. when you can upgrade thats what 90 % of us have done. And stop taking things so personal there are a few people on here always looking for a fight dont give in ask questions dont get angry. There is a person I really admire and almost every time I see him he has a saying huge em, love em, grow em, keep em safe. Although he means it towards my son I think it pertains to this as well. Just as a side not if I see you hugging your fish I am going to turn you into the tang police

well said, Jeff...and delivered with your excellent sense of humor as well. Spyder, this forum is a little different than what you are used to...not that we don't like to have fun, we do...but it is LOADED with folks that have been doing saltwater for many, many years...not just like 5 or 6 years, but decades. People truly want to help not only you, but your fish, too. Keeping a healthy happy environment for LIFE starts with responsibility and understanding the delicate nature of this hobby...and believe me when I say, I learned this the hard way and if it wasn't for the blatantly honest, sometimes edgy advice of the veterans...I would not be where i am today.

Certainly, you don't want to have to keep throwing money away (unless you have all kinds of money to do so, and even then, it's not fair to the fish or coral) which is why we all stress the importance of patience. As most of the peeps here can tell you, I am the least patient person around...but when it comes to this hobby? It's the only way to do it. Hang in there...and listen.:love1:

And dont feel like your alone I remember a kid a long tie ago that was on here by the name of oceanparadise that also did stupid things like put tangs in small tanks as well but hopefully he has learned by now

Does anyone know if fish spawning can be triggered by a stressing event (such as being put into an uncycled tank) the same way inverts can be triggered?

My 120g tank's heater died and the tank dropped to below 70 degrees. I brought the temp back up and the next day one of my anemones went crazy and filled the tank up with white goo, had to do an emergency water change. It looked like it would die for a week but pulled through. Yuck.

sounds like your guess could be 100% accurate
