I don't post often, but this tang has me scratching my head. He only eats meaty foods. I tried nori straight up, i've tried soaked in garlic, i tried different locations, but this guy wont eat it. Has anyone ever seen this before?

Your YT doesn't sound weird to me

Your YT doesn't sound weird to me

IME fishes are similar to kids when it comes to eating.
Given options, most would rather fill up on what tastes good.

Tangs eat algae. Microalgae etc. They graze all day long.

Personally, I don't use feeding clips. If you want to see your Tang eat nori stop feeding it meaty foods. IMO the garlic is a waste of money.

as far as the garlic goes, i used some from the frig( don't tell the wife). i also rubberband the nori to small rocks. if his belly starts to look sunken i feed him meaty food to try and keep him alive. the only other fish in the tank are 4 percs that are happy to eat the nori if meaty food is not around.

How do you feed algea strips with out the clips Gary?

For the record, I'm not Gary, but I can tell you how I have fed nori without clips. Take a sheet of nori and soak it for 30 seconds in your tank's water. Take it out, squeeze it into a ball and lay it on a cutting board. Now chop it up.

Next, I put it in a container with tank water and swished it around using a turkey baster.

Now, suck it up with the turkey baster and squirt it in your tank.

Thanks Mag!!
Sounds simple enough. Ive never been a fan of the rdbberband way that's why i asked.
Although I'm not sure my wife will like messing the cutting board so I'll have to improvise their :-)

It's organic plant matter. .. probably cleaner than most of the veggies in the produce section at Danny's lol.

I don't use clips either. .I take a 2"x2" chunk, for my aquarium, and rub my fingers together hard in front of the returns. It all breaks up and my fish go crazy. The chromis seem to love it more so than the tangs lol.

I don't use feeding clips much anymore. I have 'em, but their useless in my aquarium because all the nori gets eaten in a matter of minutes (seconds?).
When feeding nori to my fishes nowadays I soak a strip in the aquarium till it's waterlogged and then crumble it up. The resulting nori "snowstorm" is quickly consumed.

I have 6 surgeonsifh. The yellow tang is slow to hit the nori. The others gobble it in minutes. The yellow is the only tang in the 65 and he eats it but it may take a day. They do need herbivorous foods. I use a little spirulina flake too,he takes that quickly as does the falme angel in that tank and the others . There isn't very much to graze in my tanks .
I use the float type clips ,either suction cupped to the side or on the bottom zip tied to a piece of pvc for weight. Each tank gets a small strip or two every two days.
