Wife Challenge

OK. This is the deal. I am going to work offshore tomorrow. In the past my wife looked after the tank. She has got a big head and reckons that she knows more about reefing than I do? Six months into the game and she is an expert. That being said she may be more open minded than me. I am not a rookie, I basically started with reefs in 1987. If you look at my avatar name and reference it to Sprung and Delbeeks first book you will see some photos of my early tanks. Some early FAMA articles also. Keeping SPS in 1989 was a big deal. Mostly brown acro's but we kept them alive. Marc Polletti was propegating as well as a few friends of mine.

Now a pic:

When I get home it better look better than this.

For those that are interested. the job I am going on is the third phase of the Myanmare field development. We only had a 200 meter diving system previously
We are now going to 300 msw. If anyone is is interested I have a few GoPro images from inside the diving bell. I can post here but I dont want to upset things if this is the wrong place.

Thanks

Neil

Thanks guys! The wife is just gone out to by a Super Camera. Already stacked against me. Not to mention this tank is only 5 mo's old. It's going to start doing it's thing and she will get all the credit?

Jesus

Not in a blasphemous way but Christ. My Wife already has the advantage. I am thinking that I have a kidney problem. Perhaps bed rest is a good idea?

Thanks for the encouragement guys. The photo is terrible. This is a basic Berlin setup. I am thinkig about going Zeo since that is the only reliable thing here. Watch those fragged out acros! Let's see what I can do with them!!

wrong sub forum, that's an LPS tank.

I dont see much difference between your brown SPS now and brown acros in 1989 ?

Beautiful tank, Neil. I LOVE that elegance! Best of luck to the wife!

James look at my "Build Thread". That elegance shouldn't be alive!. Thanks alot for your comments. You are a really important guy! I also know what I am doing. At least I think so. At the moment I am intentionly keeping the nitrate in front of the phosphate. I want to develope a bacteria base. This is because I have a couple NPS. My Chilli Corals and Nepththeas seen to appreciate this. I have a couple pics but they arent that pretty as I need to use a flash to show them. I am using a product called ARC Marine food. This is for feeding Naups in the food game. I also add some spiro. Not alot just for keeping my bacteria levels. I have also started with 3 ml of Smirnoff vodka per day. This appears to build a bacteria base to keep my NPS alive. All of this evidence is anectdotal but please let me say something. I have been involved as a reefer in this hobby since 1987. I picked up my first acro around 1989 Charles Delbeek sent it to me. That acro mde the rounds and it is now called a strawberry short cake. I always hated those kind of names. Grrrr.

Not wanting to be condecending : I have been around for a while and I will use all the tools at my disposal to make corals grow. i am following you and I hope you don't mind. I am going to steal your ideas!

Hello Neil :wavehand: Thank you very much for your kind comments. I started keeping corals in 1999. I have all three volumes of The Reef Aquarium Volumes 1,2,3. I have a great deal of respect for Sprung and Delbeek. I can only hope to meet them one day. I am honored that you are following me and would like to use my ideas. My ideas are meant to be shared :) Please let me know how they work for you.

Warmest Regards,
James

Dont worry

Dont worry

Well hopefully things go well mine does a pretty decent job when I am not there for short periods. Also good looking tank.

The way I see it's a win:win. Either she does great and your corals thrive or if she fails you can gently reminder her any time she gives you a hard time for buying new corals ^_^.

Sorry about the Brown Acro's. I have a hard time getting anything but wild corals here. Like I said the tank is 5 months old. Most of the SPS is one colony that I fragged up and started growing in different places just to get things going. Don't worry. I have a green Formosa and a purple Eflo on the way. No need to be insulting. Do you remember when your tank was 5 months old? And yes; I was growing brown acros in 1989 so that ought to tell you something...

That is pretty funny! The best case scenario she kills off her beloved LPS colonies and I have more room for my stuff. We have to compromise sometimes...

I thought about this. I don't want a tank that looks like yours. I have 33 SPS and 11 lps. Sorry that they grow so big? Give me a year and I will blow your sorry SPS Zeo tank out of the water. Pardon the pun...

Warmest regards

Neil
