Wild collected can be named like Acropora Robusta or blue stag. Most designer names come from online vendors and hobbyists. Like true Oregon tort or Ora tort but its really Acropora tortuosa.

Just went back and read a bunch of posts I seem to have missed on this thread..
I read with interest what you said, trueblackpercula, about about your radions and getting better colour after turning them down a little.. I may have to do the same.. Not sure yet as the tank isn't very old and most of the corals have only been in the tank for about 6 weeks, most even less.. I'm not entirely happy with the colour yet.
This being my first attempt at LEDs, I may not know exactly what I'm doing.. Considering also that I have 3 Mitras over a space that GHL would recommend I use only 2 fixtures..
I am not running my lights at full capacity (90% in high efficiency mode which reduces the output of the lights, as well) I guess I could use a par meter as well..
I'm wondering if I have my lights turned up too high..
I have to get some shots up here, but I have put a few pieces of the same acro low down in the tank and also up high but so far I haven't really noticed a difference in colour. I'll have to give them more time, I think..
I've also been feeding a fair bit as well..

Last transhipped batch only gave me a species list of what they shipped, had to go through all the corals to match, or try to match, what I had. Guess they thought I could figure it out. Sorry late night post, brain not at 100%.
I do need to post a few I got at the LFS for ID in the ID forum again, though they came from someones tank.

Yes they look very nice and are very large for the price. But I have one that has taken almost 6 months to color back up and and looks nothing like when I bought it. I have tried high and low in my tank and I just can't get the deep pink with lime green base back.
I will post a picture later.

Yeah I'm guessing it will be a long haul but I think it will be worth the effort if and when it works out.. I've read horror stories and success stories.. I'm just hoping I'm the latter lol.. I'll post some pics up when I get them but I'm a month or 2 off.. Unique corals has some nice colored milliepora that I'm itching to get and shipping is cheap in cali. We will see =)..

How has everyone been doing with bugs? I noticed on many of my maricultured and especially on the wild colonies brought in a whole assortment of horrible creatures. I used interceptor and dipped away the nudibranchs. Next time I'm thinking of using Bayer before they even touch quarantine. My only worry was stressing them even more with their travels.

Wow love that first pic you posted. I use Bayer also, but I don't think it prevented the red bugs in my tank--where I promptly removed them with AFWE.

Those are some nice pieces Volcano, they'll look cool when the colors brighten again. Is that green with purple on that colony akitareefer, looks to be doing great for you mate. :thumbsup:
I've never seen any pests on SPS other than a colony i bought years ago which had tiny white acro eating nudi's hatch on it - the second i saw them munching away at the base the entire colony went lawn surfacing - nothing survives a 'lawn' dip........

Thought this might interest some of you in relation to SPS feeding.
About 2 months ago i had this wild green piece (of crap) and thought i'd experiment to see if there really was food in the water for the corals. I shoved it under a rock shelf with barely any light and it promptly bleached within about 2 weeks. 6 weeks later as you can see it has good PE and other than being bleached white it doesn't look unhealthy at all. I had to blow up the pic a bit as it's too far away from the glass to get a good shot.

Sounds cruel to do but that's just me. It's still alive because it is probably consuming every last bit of its zooxanthelea. So even if it gets a chance to eat what is in the tank it still needs light to thrive.
Can you talk about what it is your trying to accomplish so I can better understand?

Damn Perc, now i feel like a turd lol. I was just interested in how long a bleached coral could survive and also i wanted to see if it colors back up identically to how it was previously. I'm going to drag it out into the light today as i'll feel bad every time i look at the bloody thing now........
Btw Perc, i know you miss my weird Aus humor sometimes so just so we're clear - i wasn't at all upset that you pointed out the cruelty aspect of what i was doing, easy to forget you're dealing with live animals sometimes :thumbsup:
I'm not at all impressed with how many of you are slacking in the wild pic posting dept btw - lift your game.........
