Wild and Maricultured SPS Reefers Thread

I have had a hard time finding nice wild colonies just about any where

It's really dryer up the last year or so. There are still some that come in to the wholesalers, but not near as many it seems as in the past. I was told it was more of a supply and demand issue. That specific coral demand runs in trends. Right now lps are more trendy than acros, so less are brought in. The price also appears to have risin on good acros, so less retailers feel they can sell them and make a profit. Maybe that's why there are more wild, cut up frags, to help make a profit. I have finally got a couple, the last few months, but not quite as nice as in the past. Seems to be a larger amount of maricultured pieces now available, some from newer areas. They selection of species isn't the most diverse though.
Any way when I asked those are some of the responses I got from the retailers. I don't know if more nice stuff is staying back in aussieland or not. In the past, most nice stuff was exported. Maybe Andrew can say if nicer stuff seems more plentiful. It sure looks like it in his tank.

Well stated volcano. I'm going to a local frag swap this weekend; actually one of the larger in New England held annually. While everyone is flocking to the glowing zoa and the like I'm hunting for killer acros and I'm willing to bet I see far more fresh cut wild 1" frags and under hyper blue led and low flow show tanks; while what I really want to see is sizable colonies. Can't blame guys for making a buck; just a shame it's so prevalent. The LA wholesalers I've spoke to say the hot stuff flies in/flies out so there is definitely a market

I agree the maricultures coming out are not to diverse. I try to stay away from them because it's hard for me to find something I have not grown yet. Especially if I am going by species.

I do like the amount of orange and yellow hues that I see in the newer wild stuff coming out. Unfortunately I never get to see them unless it's a frag.

I would love to see some pics if anyone has anything to share.

My oz SSC come in super bright and massive PE 4 weeks in my system (qt w Bayer dip to DT) I get a lot of maroon. Just now encrusting with green base/red polyps and PE starting to emerge again with some bright eng 4 months later. Staying optimistic. Greens and purples in other pieces coming in first. Healthy tenius keep nice blues. Sorry I just can't take pictures. I try. I fail. I got a Nikon d90 but resort to iPhone.

Trying a few Difft sources. We got to find a way to get Aussie stuff in faster 30 + hours + usfw & cities and that's just to LA let alone any other destination.

I hope this is the ugly stage and I got good things to come. Will do my best.
